Some of you may have seen it firsthand—Greenburgh Public Library became a movie set! A production company chose the library as a filming location for a scene, transforming it into a hospital setting on Wednesday, March 5th. While the library closed to the public for the day, staff took part in professional development training as the film crew brought the scene to life.
Only one scene was filmed over the course |
of the entire day, which began at 6 am and ended at 8 pm that evening.
The scene called for rain and water towers were on hand to make the scene happen. However, by 4:00 pm the rain towers were not necessary, and a downpour gave the Director what he needed to shoot the scene naturally. After about 25-30 takes, the production company wrapped up their equipment and cleaned everything up by Thursday morning. The Library resumed regular activities and opened once again at 9:30 am.
There is not much I can share with the community about the movie because not much was shared by the production company with the Library - including the title. However, the Director was Steven Spielberg, and the two stars of the scene were Emily Blunt and Wyatt Russell. There were also about 40 extras and several hundred behind the scenes folks included in the whole production.
It was a unique experience for the few of us that were allowed in the building. Hopefully, they will keep the Library/hospital scene in the movie and not have it end up on the cutting room floor. With the production company donation, the Library will be buying two glass and sound proof meeting room pods for private meeting room space. These pods will eventually be installed and located on the second floor in the atrium windows. Private meeting space is something many patrons have been asking about for several years.
The Library is excited to be able to provide this much-needed resource for our community members.

IMLS Funding: A Vital Resource for Libraries
| | |
“The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is the only federal agency dedicated to funding and supporting America’s libraries, and a key resource hub for our nation’s more than 125,000 libraries. While constituting just 0.003% of the federal budget, spending on school, academic, public, and special libraries aids the operation of institutions that see more than 1.2 billion visits every year.
New Yorkers benefited from $19.9 million in IMLS administered federal funding in FY 2024. Whether through funding early and adult literacy programs, summer reading programs, workforce development initiatives, aid to veterans, broadband access, or the essential administrative functions executed by the New York State Library that support our state’s 7,000 libraries and 72 library systems, the grants facilitated by IMLS benefit all New Yorkers.”
Money from the IMLS has had a huge impact on libraries and the American people all the way to the local level. Many of these programs and grants mentioned have been available to the Greenburgh Public Library. On March 14, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order advancing the elimination of the IMLS.
Please consider lending your voice to advocate for continued IMLS funding and the support of all libraries. Click here to defend IMLS and its funding to your local legislators.

Operation Prom: Greenburgh Comes Together for Teen Dreams
Greenburgh Public Library teamed up with Greenburgh Town Hall and the Theodore D. Young Community Center (TDYCC) to support Operation Prom, a nationally recognized nonprofit that helps students attend prom by providing formalwear at no cost, with a week-long donation drive. From sleek suits to gorgeous gowns, community members stepped up and donated gently used prom outfits—ensuring every student can feel confident and celebrated on prom night.
Thanks to the kindness of local donors and the combined efforts of several Greenburgh organizations, a huge collection of prom attire is ready to help teens look and feel their best. We especially recognize the Rotary Club of Hartsdale/Greenburgh for going above and beyond - donating hundreds of formal outfits and showing just how generous and supportive our community can be.
High school students with a valid school ID or report card are invited to check out the prom attire giveaway at the Westchester County Center on May 2, 3, and 4. They'll be able to browse racks of formalwear in all styles and sizes—and it's all completely free.

GPL and Neighborhood Forest
Bring Trees to Kids
For the second year in a row, GPL partnered with Neighborhood Forest to give free trees to children. Since 2010, Neighborhood Forest has reached over 3,500 schools, libraries, and youth groups; engaged over 750,000 volunteers; and planted over 310,000 (mostly urban and residential) trees through the hands of children and their caregivers across North America. Last year, GPL distributed 73 saplings from Neighborhood Forest. We had a great response this year and we're up to 121 saplings! This year's registration is closed; registration for next year will begin in February 2026. We look forward to growing this program (and more trees) for years to come!
