GPL is embarking on an exciting 10-week renovation project starting this week! While the front entrance undergoes exterior rehabilitation, the Library will remain open, welcoming patrons through a temporary entrance at the side door facing Route 119. This improvement aims to enhance our space and address leaks under the overhanging canopy and in the vestibule area.
|
|
|
During the construction, patrons can expect some noise, particularly in the Swoop area (Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction section), starting at 7 am and continuing through the early afternoon. Although the Library circle will be closed to traffic, parking, and access to services like Holds Lockers and Curbside Pick-Up will remain unaffected.
We’re dedicated to keeping our community informed and engaged throughout this process. Updates will be provided through our website, social media channels, and community outreach efforts. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to improve our library space for the Greenburgh community! If you have any questions, please contact the director at director@greenburghlibrary.org.

The Greenburgh Public Library has made some exciting changes to our local history collection in the past two years to ensure preservation and accessibility. At the beginning of 2023, we received a grant for an archival needs assessment by the Documentary Heritage & Preservation Services for New York (DHPSNY). DHPSNY is a New York State Education Department program, with services provided by the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts. The archival needs assessment was a thorough examination, by an experienced archivist, of our collection to identify and address specific organization needs, operational efficiencies, facility and storage concerns, and collection management issues.
Additionally, in 2023, the library secured a grant from the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) to digitize a significant portion of its newspapers, books, and maps and make them accessible online. METRO is a non-profit organization that provides essential services to libraries, archives, and museums. Our current digital collections, hosted by Digital Culture of Metropolitan New York (DCMNY), run on Archipelago, an open-source repository system developed and supported by METRO.

On May 1, students gathered to test their strategic skills and qualify for the highly anticipated Chess Tournament held on Wednesday, May 8. This exciting program, exclusively for children in 4th grade and older, showcased some of our community's most talented young chess enthusiasts.
The tournament not only highlighted the intellectual abilities of our young participants but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated and look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in future chess events. Congratulations to all the competitors for their hard work and dedication! |
