After almost six months of construction, the Library canopy project is complete and the front doors are open once more. I would like to thank the architects, engineers, contractors, and all the folks who brought this project to fruition. I would also like to thank community members and library staff for their patience and workarounds during the months with no front door access.

Anyone who has embarked on a home construction project or remodel will know that these things always take longer than anticipated. There were many challenges that took place after the work was initially started, mostly due to changes or delays with the materials. The new canopy has improved drainage, better lighting, and looks as though it has always been a part of the building.
I would like to say that the project is officially completed, however, at the time of this publication the new sliding glass doors, that were ordered in June, are not yet here. The installation of the new doors should not take more than a day to complete and the Library will remain open during installation.
In the meantime, the Holidays are approaching and it is a wonderful time to visit the Library. There are lots of programs happening during school recess and lots of great new books for the New Year. See you at the Library and have a wonderful holiday season!

The puzzle station in our lobby is always buzzing with activity—proof that jigsaw puzzles bring joy and connection to all ages. Thanks to generous community donations, Greenburgh Public Library now has a circulating puzzle collection! Puzzles are a great way to unplug, reduce stress, and bond with loved ones while boosting memory and problem-solving skills.
Borrowing is easy: - Puzzles are on the holds shelf, secured with a rubber band and circulate for three weeks.
- Open to all ages—no need to worry about missing pieces! Use the sticker to let us know.
- No holds; return puzzles to the Circulation Desk (not the book drop).
Take home the joy of puzzling today! |

From digitized newspapers to rare books and a newly discovered interview, we’re working to make valuable local history resources more accessible than ever. Here’s a look at what’s available and what’s coming soon.
We've made several updates to the Local History Room to make it more accessible than ever. Bookcase labels now make it easier to navigate topics and locations, and thanks to the completion of our METRO (Metropolitan New York Library Council) digitization grant, we’ve expanded our digital collection. Patrons can explore digitized newspapers and books that offer valuable insights into our community’s history. The following newspapers are available on our website, along with an expanding collection of local history books that have also been digitized:
Newspapers:
The Hartsdale Times
The Elmsford Herald
The Edgemont Echo
The Edgemont Leaves
The Fair-View News (coming soon)
Books:
History of Hartsdale published by The Hartsdale Times
Greenburgh: A Glimpse of Our Past: Town of Greenburgh Bicentennial, 1788-1988
Coming Soon: Look out for a new Local History computer that will be available for in-house use, providing access to our digital collection, including items only available in the library due to copyright restrictions.
We’re also excited to announce that a missing interview with a WWII veteran has been located and added to the Town of Greenburgh’s website. The library held the master copies of this interview, which allowed us to ensure it is available online for everyone to access and appreciate.
At Greenburgh Public Library, we’re excited to continue expanding our local history resources and look forward to bringing you even more valuable content in the future. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our local heritage alive!

Representing the library were two dedicated teams: the Greenburgh Shenanigans (grades 4–6) and the Greenburgh Alphas (grades 7–12). Competing against other Westchester libraries, they tackled trivia questions from five selected books. Both teams showcased impressive teamwork and great sportsmanship throughout the event.

A Year of Stories at
Greenburgh Nature Center |
|
|
|
This Winter marks the first full year of Greenburgh Public Library’s StoryWalk® partnership with the Greenburgh Nature Center, bringing great stories into the great outdoors! A StoryWalk®, as explained by its founders from the Kellog-Hubbard Library, is a project that promotes early literacy, physical activity, and family time together in nature. Stories are shared and displayed one page at a time along a walking route.
At Greenburgh Public Library, we begin creating a StoryWalk® by choosing a children’s picture book we think will be great to share with the community, especially ones focusing on nature. It’s hard to decide among so many wonderful books, but we do our best! Once we find a story that fits both our and the Nature Center’s needs, we get two copies of the book. We carefully disassemble and reassemble the book pages so they form complete page spreads, and we laminate them so they last longer outside. The lovely staff at the Greenburgh Nature Center take the laminated pages and set them in frames that are mounted along one of the trails leading to their butterfly garden.
The StoryWalk® changes around four times a year, and so far has featured: Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner, One Duck Stuck by Phyllis Root, Señorita Mariposa by Ben Gundersheimer, and Amara’s Farm, by JaNay Brown-Wood.
Look forward to visiting our next StoryWalk®, Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson. In this lyrical and lighthearted story, animal after animal takes shelter from the cold in the cave Bear is hibernating in. What starts as a little gathering becomes a loud party! Will they wake up Bear, or will he continue to snore on? Find out on the path to the meadow!
