Bakersfield, California - Lee Herrick, California Poet Laureate and Fresno based author will host a writing workshop at Beale Memorial Library on Saturday July 29, 2023, at 1pm in the auditorium. The event is FREE, open to the public, and is a great opportunity to learn and connect with the California Poet Laureate and published author.
Herrick was appointed California Poet Laureate last year by Governor Gavin Newsom. The Poet Laureate promotes the art of poetry across the state and motivates the next generation of literary artists to express themselves through poetry. They also educate all Californians about the many poets and authors who have influenced California's creative literary history. During their time, the Poet Laureate provides public readings and engagements across the state to educate the public and leaders about the value of poetry and creative expression. They also bring poetic arts to communities who might otherwise have little opportunity to be exposed to poetry.
The writing workshop is hosted by Kern County Library, California State Library, and the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is designed to ignite the creative spark within aspiring writers and provide a platform for honing their writing skills. Participants will be exposed to valuable insights into the art and craft of writing. Whether you are an aspiring novelist, a poet, an essayist, or simply someone who loves to write, this workshop welcomes writers of all levels and backgrounds. Come join us for an unforgettable experience that will invigorate your creativity and help propel your writing to new heights.
