Lake Isabella, CA - The Kern County Library announces the temporary closure of the Kern River Valley Branch Library located at 7054 Lake Isabella Blvd, Lake Isabella, from Tuesday, October 1, 2024, through Monday, March 31, 2025.
This closure ,approved by the Kern County Board of Supervisors on June 30, 2024, under Resolution #2024-207, is necessary to carry out life-safety and critical maintenance improvements funded through the Building Forward Library Infrastructure Grant administered by the California State Library. During this closure, various upgrades will be made across the facility, including security upgrades, layout improvements, flooring upgrades/replacement, and network accessibility upgrades. The branch is scheduled to reopen to the public on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
To ensure continued access to library services during the closure, the Department will provide express library services via a pop-up tent Thursdays through Saturdays, 12-4 pm, in the library parking lot, weather permitting.

The book drop will remain open and available for library material drop-offs for Kern River Valley area residents throughout the closure. Residents are encouraged to connect with branch staff through the call center located at Library HQ in Bakersfield for questions or assistance with holds, accounts, programs, eBooks, research, and more at 661.868.0701.
The Budget Act of 2021, Senate Bill 129, allocated $439 million in one-time funds to the California State Library to address life-safety and critical maintenance needs of public library facilities throughout California. The Building Forward Library Infrastructure grant provides funding for life-safety and critical maintenance improvements. The Kern River Valley Branch Library was awarded $470,541 for necessary safety and security improvements as well as updates to the aging infrastructure.
