Four Questions for Laura Harris - Nelson Library's New Chief Librarian! In order to learn about our new chief librarian, Fraser (adult services coordinator) sat down with her to anwser a few questions. 1. When and where are you happiest? Spring is probably my favourite season because I love the sensation of being tired after a full day outside in fresh spring air. I’m not one for winter sports, so it’s rejuvenating to get back outside for long periods of time, whether I’m gardening, camping, flyfishing or reading in the yard. |
2.What is your current state of mind?These days I am buzzing about the new gig! 3.Which talent would you most like to have?I wish I could speak many languages very well. My ability to connect with people with different life experiences from my own would be so much greater if I spoke more languages. I have been a language learner at various times in my life, having studied German, Spanish, French, Mandarin and Japanese. In fact, I can count to five in ten languages (a common “fun fact” I pull out for ice breakers), but for almost half of those I don’t think I could count to six 😂 4. Who are your favorite writers? Oh dear. The impossible question. I’ve already stared at my laptop for 10 minutes thinking about this one. How about I share my top five reads of 2026 so far (in the order they came to mind!): The White Hot by Quiara Alegría Hudes, The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai and Writers and Lovers by Lily King. |

Create friendship bracelets in honour of Moose Hide Day, a nationwide movement dedicated to ending violence against women and children. Make a nature-based craft with Jenni and Angela from Nelson NatureKids.
