Standout Friend: Mary Ann Sandeen

Congratulations to Mary Ann Sandeen, President of the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library, for her “hall of fame” induction on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Mary Ann was recognized as a Standout Friend by the Minnesota Association of Library Friends. Mary Ann has been involved with supporting the Stillwater Public Library continuously for more than 30 years. Beginning in 1988, she sat on the Board of Trustees. In 1998, she was a founder of the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library and continues to serve as President today. Later, she became one of the founding directors of the Stillwater Public Library Foundation.

Since 2002, the Friends have hosted twice-a-year book sales, generating over $160,000 in support to the library. While a group effort, Mary Ann’s touch is clearly felt. As Stillwater Public Library’s long-time, retired director Lynne Bertalmio said, “Mary Ann is the constant in the Friends group, carries a sense of history, and works diligently to forward the Friends and the library.” Mary Ann has contributed to many special library projects, including the library restoration and expansion and the installation of hearing loops in the library’s meeting spaces.

Stop by the Friends Used Book Sale this week and see Mary Ann's work in action!
