On June 1, the library returns to nearly full operating hours. We now are open on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 AM - 7 PM and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM - 5 PM. Stop in to visit! Check out books, sit and read a newspaper, enjoy the terrace, use a computer, and more. Face masks and social distancing will follow state guidelines. Learn more about the Sit-down Access phase and what to expect at the library.

Join Your Neighbors in the Big Read

Join your St. Croix Valley neighbors this June in reading The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang. The NEA Big Read in the St. Croix Valley is a one book, one community program that brings together residents around a common book. This year's programming honors Hmong stories both past and future through memoir, illustration, food, song, fashion and craft. Visit artreachstcroix.org/bigread for a complete list of events. Following is a preview of two of the books featured as part of the Big Read, both with Happy Hour book discussions.

The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir
by Kao Kalia Yang

A college professor describes her harrowing escape with her Hmong family from war-torn Laos, their lives as refugees in a camp in Thailand, their settlement in Minnesota, and her special relationship with her Hmong grandmother.

Book discussion: Tuesday, June 1 | 4:30 PM at  Papa's, Water Street Inn's Rooftop
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures
by Anne Fadiman

A study in the collision between Western medicine and the beliefs of a traditional culture focuses on a hospitalized child of Laotian immigrants, members of the Hmong tribe, whose belief that illness is a spiritual matter came into conflict with doctors' methods.

Book discussion: Wednesday, June 23 | 6:30 PM at Forge & Foundry's Distillery Rooftop
Explore New Perspectives

As pandemic restrictions ease and we transition into summer, take time for Exploring Perspectives. Venture into new genres and new directions, or keep it simple with new books by a favorite author.  We will support you with staff book suggestions, online and in-person programs, the chance to win weekly drawings, and monthly take & make projects.

Check out these two book lists to start exploring new perspectives! Click on a book cover to learn more or to place a hold.

Introducing Library Lockers!

As we expand library hours and capacity, we will need to utilize the full parking ramp for visits and will end our curbside services. For those preferring reduced contact services or added convenience, we are introducing Library Lockers. The lockers are located just inside the double doors from the library's 3rd St parking ramp.

Beginning June 1, locker pickups are available daily during library hours. Appointments are required. Schedule an appointment online or by calling the library at 651-275-4338.
