There's still time to join the fun. Summer Garden Explorers for Adults continues through August 8. Read books, submit brief reviews or ratings, and earn entries into weekly drawings for gift cards to local businesses. Participating is easy. Turn in a review card at the library or use Beanstack to track your reading and share reviews online. You can also earn an entry by attending an adult library program.
Whether you discover a new author, explore a different genre, or revisit an old favorite, every review is another chance to win.

| Meet a Bestselling Author | Wednesday, July 29, 6 PM
Award-winning author Laurie Frankel will discuss her recent book, Enormous Wings, with Pamela Klinger-Horn of Literature Lovers’ Night Out.
At 77, Pepper Mills didn't choose the Vista View Retirement Community. When she grudgingly moves in, she not only makes new friends, she falls in love. | Take in the View |
For many local families, the Lake St. Croix Overlook in Oak Park Heights is one of the best places to watch Fourth of July fireworks over the St. Croix River Valley. Long before today's celebrations, visitors stopped here for the same sweeping view captured in this postcard from the Stillwater Public Library's St. Croix Room postcard collection.
The postcard looks across the valley toward the Allen S. King Plant (Xcel Energy), which was completed in 1968.
The overlook itself has a much longer history. Located along Lookout Trail near the original junction of Trunk Highways 212 and 95, it was developed between 1938 and 1939. Workers with the National Youth Administration used limestone salvaged from the former Minnesota Territorial Prison to build the overlook's distinctive stone walls and other features. In 2007, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its historic significance and its National Park Service Rustic Style design.
Whether you're stopping to admire the scenery, share a summer picnic, or gather for the Fourth of July fireworks, the overlook continues to offer one of the area's most memorable views.

| Play & Learn Together
Use your imagination to discover gardening through the eyes of pollinators! Visit the “Pollination Station” and use “Bug Bucks” to procure magnifying glasses, binoculars, and more while exploring the library’s “garden” and “compost pile.” Feed “royal jelly” to “baby honey bee larvae” and mix up pretend bee bread in the “honey bee hive.” Glimpse the way that many insects see the world around them through faceted prism viewers, and learn about native super-pollinator solitary bees.
Open during library hours, the Discovery Room invites kids and caregivers to play and learn together. The exhibit is created by library staff and generously funded by the Stillwater Public Library Foundation.

| Watch a Movie Under the Stars Tuesday, July 14 & 28, 5-8 PM
Stillwater Public Library will be at Summer Tuesdays in Lowell Park on July 14 and 28. Enjoy a vendor market, live music, and movies under the stars. The vendor market opens at 5 PM, live music takes place from 6–8 PM, and the movie begins approximately 10 minutes after sunset. On July 14, the featured film is Miracle (PG), and on July 28, the film is Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (PG).
Stop by the library table from 5-8 PM to learn about Summer Reading and library services, and enjoy a simple face-paint design.
Summer Tuesdays is free and open to the public. For the movie, bring a chair, blanket, pillow—or simply yourself. Dogs are welcome but must be well-behaved, leashed, and cleaned up after.

Raise a Glass for the Library
Tuesday, July 28, 5-9 PM Enjoy a Lift Bridge brew and support the Stillwater Public Library Foundation on Tuesday, July 28, from 5-9 PM at Lift Bridge Brewing Company in Stillwater. During the event, $1 from every pint poured and $2 from every to-go purchase will be donated to the Foundation to support the library.
