Greetings from Forsyth County Public Library!
This month we're celebrating the dedication of the Denmark Library, honoring the heritage of Asian Pacific Americans, seeking submissions for a community photography exhibit, and gearing up to launch our biggest ongoing event of the year: Summer Reading Fun.
Read on for library news, recommended reads, program previews, and a surprising library resource that can save a group of four more than $1,100 a year!
As always, thank you for being a cherished part of our library community.
Happy reading!

More of Your Favorite Reads of 2024
Last December we surveyed FCPL patrons and staff about their favorite reads of 2024 and the responses were tremendous! In fact, we received feedback from a number of you that you really enjoyed seeing these book recommendations and you want us to share more of them.
Wish granted!
Here are three more "Favorite Reads of 2024" book recommendations from your fellow patrons: |
| Pretty girls: a Novel |
Karin Slaughter |
Estranged for years after the disappearance of their sister, trophy wife Claire and struggling single mom Lydia are reunited by the murder of Claire's husband and investigate decades of family secrets to discover the truth. |
| |
Keeley said, "This book was one of the best thrillers I had read in a while. It was not predictable, kept me entertained, and carried the story at a perfect pace."
| |
The Covenant of Water: a Novel |
Abraham Verghese |
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, and set in Kerala, on South India's Malabar Coast, an epic of love, faith and medicine follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning. |
| |
Dalia said, "I loved how he narrated the story. It was descriptive, poetic in nature and reminded me of my Mom's place of birth (Kerala). When I read some of his lines, I had to close the book to really understand his words. If people love medicine and poetry, they'll love this book. Only word of caution is that it is quite long. ;) "
| |
| James: a Novel |
Percival Everett |
Describes the events of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn through the eyes of the enslaved Jim, who decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island after learning he is to be sold to a man in New Orleans. |
| |
Laura said, "I read this book in one sitting—it was so engaging! It took a familiar story and flipped it on its head. Touching, poignant, funny, dark, and sad…it was my favorite read of 2024."
Note from FCPL: This one has a long list of holds in every format, but it sounds like it's worth the wait! |
