Summer Reading Program June 24th - August 9th

Our 2024 Summer Reading theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library" and we have all sorts of adventures coming your way! Participate in our reading challenge and win raffle tickets for logging your reading, writing book reviews, and participating in fun activities; raffle tickets can be entered to win one of our grand prizes!

Virtual Author Talk with Matt Shindell
Monday, June 3rd at 2PM Virtual Event You’re invited to come learn alongside Matt Shindell, National Air and Space Museum curator, as he introduces viewers to historical figures across eras and around the world who have made sense of the mysterious planet of Mars.

Gender & Sexuality 101 Monday, June 3rd at 6:30PM Judith Clini Community Room
Genny Beemyn from the Stonewell Center at UMASS will present an introductory workshop that covers LGBTQIA+ terminology and discusses the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ Community. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation of diverse identities and how to approach LGBTQIA+ topics through an intersectional lens.

Board Game Night Wednesday, June 5th at 6:30PM Judith Clini Community Room Celebrate the joys of a good old game night with board games and snacks! We'll have games on hand like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Munchkin, and more - but feel free to bring your own! There will be multiple tables for multiple games, so bring a friend or meet some like-minded gamers at the event. Light refreshments like cookies, cupcakes, and juices will be available. This is a drop in program for adults ages 18+ and no registration is necessary.

Chess Club Wednesdays at 7PM - 8:30PM Main Floor Study Area Chess enthusiats and beginners alike are invited to join Agawam Library's Chess Club! This group meets every Wednesday evening at the library and is open to players of all ages and experience levels. We provide multiple tables and chess sets as well as instruction, strategies, and tactics for new players. Feel free to bring your own chess set!
This is a drop in group and no registration is necessary.

Tea & Trivia
Wednesday, June 12th at 2:30PM Tuesday, June 18th at 6:30PM Judith Clini Community Room Ready to have your wits challenged? Join us for tasty tea and a couple rounds of Jeopardy and pub-style trivia! Come by yourself or with a team; prizes will be awarded to the winning players. We have two sessions scheduled for this month with different questions for each session, so join us for one or both for double the fun! These programs are for patrons ages 18 and older.

Library Tech Class: Getting Started with Beanstack
Tuesday, June 25th at 10AM Judith Clini Community Room It's summer, and that means summer reading has kicked off and we're trying to read as much as possible! We at the library use Beanstack for our summer reading program, but you can also use Beanstack to record what and how often you are reading. Please bring whichever mobile device you are most comfortable using! This is a drop in program and no registration is required.

Read with Pride Book Club
Wednesday, June 26th at 7PM Judith Clini Community Room Join us for our 1 year anniversary celebration! Cake, snacks, and drinks will be served and we'll discuss the charming graphic novel The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang. Copies of the book are available to borrow at the Agawam Library circulation desk. Members of the LGBTQ+ community and supporters are welcome to join! This is a drop in group for adults ages 18+ and no registration is necessary.

10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Friday, June 28th at 10:30AM Judith Clini Community Room Join the Alzherimer's Association to learn the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's Disease and how they differ from typical age-related memory, thinking, and behavior changes. You will also get tips for approaching someone about memory concerns and gain an understanding of the diagnostic process.
