The SWGRL Spotlight

A monthly e-news and information publication of the
Southwest Georgia Regional Library System.

July 2018   Volume 9, Issue 12

"Libraries are among the few places left on earth where imagination is actively, consistently celebrated and encouraged. To walk into a library is to enter an immersive, multi-dimensional creative space that's open to anyone and everyone. How great is that?"

~ Bethany Blake

What Happened That Night
by Sandra Block

She doesn't remember that night. But she will never be the same.
One moment, Dahlia is a successful Harvard student; the next, she wakes up from a party, the victim of a brutal assault. Her life veers into a tailspin, and what's worse ― her memory of the attack has been ripped away, leaving a cold rage in its wake. Now, years later, Dahlia is a tattooed paralegal suffering from PTSD and still haunted by that night. Until one day, a video surfaces online, and Dahlia sees her attack for the first time.
There There: A Novel
by Tommy Orange

Twelve Native Americans came to the Big Oakland Powwow for different reasons. Tommy Orange delivers a wondrous and shattering portrait of an America few of us have ever seen. A multi-generational, relentlessly paced story about violence and recovery, hope and loss, identity and power, dislocation and communion, and the beauty and despair woven into the history of a nation and its people.
Harry's Trees
by Jon Cohen

When you climb a tree, the first thing you do is to hold on tight...Thirty-four-year-old Harry Crane works as an analyst for the US Forest Service. When his wife dies suddenly, he is unable to cope. Leaving his job and his old life behind, Harry makes his way to the remote woods of northeastern Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains, determined to lose himself. But fate intervenes in the form of a fiercely determined young girl named Oriana. She and her mother, Amanda, are struggling to pick up the pieces from their own tragedy--Amanda stoically holding it together while Oriana roams the forest searching for answers.

A Mighty Bitey Creature
by Ronda Armitage

Ou-ou-ouch! Who did that? No bottoms are safe in a mischievous jungle story sure to elicit peals of laughter. All is quiet in the jungle. But not for long! "Who bit my lovely green bottom?" shouts Frog. He rushes to tell King Lion, who will surely know just what to do. But soon Monkey (eek-eek-eek!) and Zebra (ya-a-a hooo!) encounter something mighty and bitey, too.
Bat and the Waiting Game
by Elana K. Arnold

When Bat's older sister Janie gets a part in the school play, and can't watch him after school, it means some pretty big changes. For one, someone else will have to take care of the skunk kit in the afternoons.
The Tale of Angelino Brown
by David Almond

When Bert discovers a tiny boy angel in his pocket, he takes the angel home to his wife and they happily raise him as their own son.
