The SWGRL Spotlight A publication of the Southwest Georgia Regional Library System. September, 2014 Vol. 7, Issue 2

September is....National Library Card Sign-up Month! The right to read, and the right to read what you want is an entrenched American value that is all too often taken for granted. Each generation must be taught to read, and given the values that encourage them to read every day. One of the best ways is to have a library card and to use it to check out the materials you need to develop a hobby, do research on a timely topic, or just get something to be entertained for a few hours. To promote this the staff at all three libraries are willing to bring sign-up materials and flyers to local schools and organizations to insure everyone has a library card. Call your library and ask to speak with the manager or call Carole Albyn at 229. 248.2665 #114 to let us know your sign-up needs. Exercise your right to read!

Giving Back to Your Community
There are many ways to serve your community, and one of those is to become more involved with the library! Each library is here to serve the community and is seeking your support with adding new books to the library. Monetary donations to the library can be made at any time and can be used as tax deductions. Memorials and honorariums are two other ways to contribute to the library and honor people in your life. A book plate is placed in each book that is purchased with these special funds according to the wishes of the donor. Sponsoring programs for the Summer Reading Program is another way to contribute to the community. For more information, please contact your library's manager to explore ways you can give back to your community.
