Kaycee Shiley joined the Southwest Georgia Regional Library System as the new Youth Services and Community Relations Librarian on July 1, 2015.
 
Kaycee received her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Florida State University, Panama City Campus in 2008, and graduated from Florida State University with her Masters in Library & Information Studies in December 2014. She has worked in child welfare in Florida since 2007, and has held different roles within that system including providing direct care to children in residential group homes, investigations, child advocacy in court, and recruiting, licensing, and retaining foster parents.
 
Working with children has always been a passion of Kaycee's, and she is excited to have the opportunity to encourage and empower children to read, learn, and seek information in the hopes of developing life-long learners who value their public library.

Beginning Computer Classes will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 through Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library. Please call the library at 229.248.2665 to reserve your spot for this class.
 
For more advanced computer users, join us on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at the Decatur     County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library for Advanced Microsoft Word. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is required before taking this class. Please call the Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library at 229.248.2665 to reserve your spot.
 
Beginning Computer Classes will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 through Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Seminole County Public Library.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Book Clubs @ Your Library
 
 The First Tuesday Book Club at the Miller County - James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library will not meet during the month of August. The First Tuesday Book Club will resume in September.
 
The First Wednesday Book Club meets at the Seminole County Public Library at 10 a.m. each month. Joining is simple! Read the book - which is always available from the library - and come to the club to discuss your reactions to it! The book club is free to join and open to the public.
 
For August, the First Wednesday Book Club is discussing The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate. If you missed out on the August book, the book for September is A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, which has been made into a movie that will be released on September 2, 2015.
 
                        
 
 
 
 
 Southwest Georgia Library for Accessible Services
The Southwest Georgia Library for Accessible Services (SWGLAS) is a free program that provides talking books as well as books and magazines published in Braille for individuals who are legally blind, have significant vision loss and cannot read standard point even while wearing glasses, are unable to hold print books or turn pages, or have been certified by a medical doctor as having a reading disability due to an organic disorder. Materials are provided by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped of the Library of Congress, and can be provided to an individual and returned by postage-free mail.
 
SWGLAS provides a myriad of reading materials, including children's books.

With children heading back to school, don't forget their most important school supply: a library card! Libraries provide students with access to innovative programs, classes and educational resources to support their curiosity and educational needs. Best of all it won’t cost you a thing; it’s all free with a library card. Contact your local library branch for more information.

Legos and Puzzles!
Play Legos at the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library every Tuesday at 4 p.m. starting August 4, 2015! Attendees can build some fantastic creations with the library's Lego collection. Parents who bring their children to play Legos will now have the opportunity to enjoy a good puzzle. While your children are building their Lego creations, you can put together an intriguing puzzle. The Lego collection is made possible by the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library Foundation. Children of all ages are welcome, and parents are encouraged to join in the fun with puzzles!
