Don Gehrlein Q: Did you have a goal in mind when first running for the Library Board, and did you accomplish this goal over the years you served on the Library Board? A: "My goal when running for the Library Board and Treasurer was to improve the financial reporting of the LTPL monthly financial results. I completely revised the library income statement format and provided more meaningful financial results to the library board members and the library director." Q: What has been your most rewarding moment while being on the Library Board? A: "My most rewarding moment while being on the library board was hearing that the voters approved our millage proposal to build a brand new and larger library building for the Lyon Township residents. Other rewarding moments resulted from working with the other board members, the library director and library staff to improve the operations and success of the library." Q: What advice would you give to future Library Boards? A: "My advice to future Library Board members is to be receptive to the thoughts, ideas, and comments from other board members, and recognize that everyone has a different background and brings different perspectives to the organization and operation of the library." Don's Parting Thoughts: "I would like to thank Holly (Director Teasdle) and all the other board members for making my eight years on the board a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. The library is well run and all the employees do an excellent job to make LTPL a very successful and excellent enhancement to our community."

King - In Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
by Jonathan Eig
Vividly written and exhaustively researched, Jonathan Eig's King: A Life is the first major biography in decades of the civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.--and the first to include recently declassified FBI files. In this revelatory new portrait of the preacher and activist who shook the world, the bestselling biographer gives us an intimate view of the courageous and often emotionally troubled human being who demanded peaceful protest for his movement but was rarely at peace with himself. He casts fresh light on the King family's origins as well as MLK's complex relationships with his wife, father, and fellow activists. King reveals a minister wrestling with his own human frailties and dark moods, a citizen hunted by his own government, and a man determined to fight for justice even if it proved to be a fight to the death. As he follows MLK from the classroom to the pulpit to the streets of Birmingham, Selma, and Memphis, Eig dramatically re-creates the journey of a man who recast American race relations and became our only modern-day founding father--as well as the nation's most mourned martyr.
