Community Reads 2025
We are excited to announce the Neighborhood Library Association's 15th annual Community Reads selection:
"My Murder" by Katie Williams

Synopsis:
Lou is a happily married mother of an adorable toddler. She's also the victim of a local serial killer. Recently brought back to life and returned to her grieving family by a government project, she is grateful for this second chance. But as the new Lou re-adapts to her old routines, and as she bonds with other female victims, she realizes that disturbing questions remain about what exactly preceded her death and how much she can really trust those around her.

Now it's not enough to care for her child, love her husband, and work the job she's always enjoyed--she must also figure out the circumstances of her death. Darkly comic, tautly paced, and full of surprises, My Murder is a devour-in-one-sitting, clever twist on the classic thriller.

Gorillas On The Line Campaign
Thank you so much to everyone who has made a donation towards this campaign! It is not to late to drop off your old, small electronics. The last day we will be accepting electronics is Monday, September 1.

The Lyon Township Public Library is partnering with the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS), who is in partnership with Saving Animals from Extinction (SAFE) Gorilla, to participate in the "Gorillas On The Line" global cell phone recycling challenge.

For the last 6 years, the Detroit Zoo has collected nearly 8,000 electronic devices and donated over $4,500.00 towards gorilla conservation through the Gorillas on the Line initiative. In North America, the Gorillas on the Line program has collected nearly 95,000 devices and donated over $48,000.00 towards gorilla conservation. The Detroit Zoo is ranked 3rd overall in devices collected in all of North America, and currently holds the title of Silverback award winner for being the top collector (2,792 devices in 2024).

So, what does this mean?
  • LTPL will have labeled boxes in our curbside vestibule to collect old, small electronic donations from Wednesday, July 2 until Monday, September 1st.
  • Items accepted: cell phones, smart phones, tablets, apple/android watches, GPS, mp3 players, e-readers, digital cameras, handheld gaming systems, headphones, and all accessories.
  • Items NOT accepted: laptops, computers, monitors, printers, and batteries.
  • The collected items will be recycled through ECO-CELL. Reusable devices will be refurbished and resold to raise money for Gorilla SAFE conservation initiatives in Africa, while unusable devices will be recycled through certified companies.

Glass Girls : a novel
by Danie Shokoohi

A former child medium is forced to face her deadly past and the ghosts she left behind in this electrifying debut. Alice Haserot thought she'd escaped the curse. For sixteen years, she's lived far from her family and the ghosts she used to conjure. But her past isn't so easily left behind. When Alice discovers she's pregnant and her estranged sister, Bronwyn, turns up on her doorstep, her carefully built new life begins to unravel. Bronwyn offers an ultimatum: one of her daughters is trying to possess the other, and only Alice has the power to save them. If Alice refuses, Bronwyn will go to their abusive mother and expose her location. Forced to confront the terrors of her childhood, Alice returns home to face the inheritance of her family curse.
All The Men I've Loved Again : a novel
by Christine Pride

It's 1999, TLC's "No Scrubs" is topping the charts, y2k is looming on everyone's mind, and Cora Belle has arrived at college ready to change her life. She's determined to grow out of the shy, sheltered girl who attended an all-white prep in her all-white suburb. Cora is ready to conquer her fears and find her people, her place in the world, and herself. What she's totally unprepared for is Lincoln, with his dark skin, charming southern drawl, and that smile. Because how can you ever prepare yourself for the rollercoaster of first love with all its glorious, bewildering contradictions? Just when Cora thinks she's got things figured out, a series of surprises and secrets threaten to upend everything she thought she understood about love and loyalty.
In the wake of these developments and a shocking tragedy, a new man enters Cora's life-Aaron-further complicating everything. He's the only one who seems to get her, and the letters she writes to him when the two are separated reveal the truth of their inescapable connection. There's only one problem-how can she fall in love with one man when her heart belongs to another? Twenty years later, and Cora is all grown up, or mostly, and has cloaked herself in loneliness like a warm blanket. It's the safest choice. But then an unexpected reconnection and a chance encounter puts her right back where she started. The same two men, the same agonizing decision. Finding herself in this position-again-will test everything Cora thought she knew about fate, love, and most importantly, herself. All The Men I've Loved Again is a big-hearted coming-of-age story for anyone who's thought what if about a past love and what it would be like to have a second chance"
Mailman : My Wild Ride Delivering The Mail In Appalachia and Finally Finding Home
by Stephen Starring Grant

Steve Grant was laid off in March of 2020. He was fifty and had cancer, so he needed health insurance, fast. Which is how he found himself a rural letter carrier in Appalachia, back in his old hometown.Suddenly, he was the guy with the goods, delivering dog food and respirators and lube and heirloom tomato seeds and Lord of the Rings replica swords. He transported chicken feed to grandmothers living alone in the mountains and forded a creek with a refrigerator on his back. But while he carried the mail, he also carried a whole lot more than just the mail, including a family legacy of rage and the anxiety of having lost his identity along with his corporate job.And yet, slowly, surrounded by a ragtag but devoted band of letter carriers, working this different kind of job, Grant found himself becoming a different kind of person. He became a lifeline for lonely people, providing fleeting moments of human contact and the assurance that our government still cares. He embraced the thrill of tackling new challenges, the pride of contributing to something greater than himself, the joy of camaraderie, and the purpose found in working hard for his family and doing a small, good thing for his community. He even kindled a newfound faith.
