Gorillas On The Line Campaign
The Lyon Township Public Library is partnering with the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS), who is in partnership with Saving Animals from Extinction (SAFE) Gorilla, to participate in the "Gorillas On The Line" global cell phone recycling challenge.

For the last 6 years, the Detroit Zoo has collected nearly 8,000 electronic devices and donated over $4,500.00 towards gorilla conservation through the Gorillas on the Line initiative. In North America, the Gorillas on the Line program has collected nearly 95,000 devices and donated over $48,000.00 towards gorilla conservation. The Detroit Zoo is ranked 3rd overall in devices collected in all of North America, and currently holds the title of Silverback award winner for being the top collector (2,792 devices in 2024).

So, what does this mean?
  • LTPL will have labeled boxes in our curbside vestibule to collect old, small electronic donations from Wednesday, July 2 until Monday, September 1st.
  • Items accepted: cell phones, smart phones, tablets, apple/android watches, GPS, mp3 players, e-readers, digital cameras, handheld gaming systems, headphones, and all accessories
  • Items NOT accepted: laptops, computers, monitors, & printers.
  • The collected items will be recycled through ECO-CELL. Reusable devices will be refurbished and resold to raise money for Gorilla SAFE conservation initiatives in Africa, while unusable devices will be recycled through certified companies.

"With Love" Digital Pen Pals
We're excited to announce a special new offering at Lyon Township Public Library! "With Love" is now available to all our patrons, completely free of charge.

What is With Love?
"With Love" is a living animated show where you express yourself through creative writing with a cast of characters. Set in the whimsical world of Notification Central, you'll join GoodGood (your caffeine-loving mailman friend) and his pals on their mission to keep digital connections real in a world going robotic. Every letter you write shapes the story! Unlike typical screen time, With Love encourages authentic communication and creativity. As you exchange letters with your animated pen pals, you'll develop writing skills naturally while building relationships with characters who remember your conversations and respond thoughtfully.

With Love can be used on a desktop, or download the app on Apple devices.

"With Love" is available now, and is free for all patrons! Visit https://www.withlove.org/library/ltpl today to get started! Click “Join Now” button, create your account, and begin your letter-writing adventure! Heart Of The Sun
by Mia Sheridan

Amid the sun-drenched orange groves of California, childhood friends Tuck Mattice and Emily Swanson shared a bond that seemed unbreakable--until life ripped them apart. Thirteen years later, Emily is a rising pop sensation in need of security, and Tuck, a brooding ex-con, is in need of a fresh start. When fate brings them together once again, Emily hires him on as her new bodyguard. They butt heads and bicker, just like the old days--yet neither can deny the heat rekindling between them. But when a cataclysmic solar flare disrupts the electrical grid, society is suddenly plunged into chaos and darkness. For Emily, the familiar comforts of fame and fortune crumble, but for Tuck, this stark new reality could be the chance he needs to finally prove himself. As they come to terms with all they've lost and the bitterness that's kept them apart, they must find their way back to one another and discover a new place, under the sun.
