Book & Media Donations

The Friends Book Sale returns October 9–11! Help make this popular event even better by donating your gently used books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and other media items. Donations are accepted during the Library’s open hours.

Donated items are reviewed in accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy and Gifts & Donations Policy. Materials not selected for the Library’s collection may find a new home at the Friends Book Sale, where proceeds support Library programs and services.

Young Woman Hiding Her Face Behind A Red Book And Smiling

Library Whispers

Shelf Watch! Library insiders have noticed an unusual development on the hold shelf. For reasons no one can quite explain, the sections reserved for patrons with last names H through L have been overflowing lately, while neighboring shelves remain comparatively calm. Is there a secret society of readers with conveniently placed surnames? A coincidence of epic proportions? Or are H–L patrons simply checking out all the best books before anyone else gets the chance?

Investigators continue to monitor the situation, though sources report the shelves are being restocked with empty space almost as quickly as new holds arrive. Until answers emerge, the mystery remains one of OPL’s most puzzling cases.

Lucky Break! Word around the Library is that some readers have discovered a shortcut to literary fame and fortune... well, at least to popular books. Sources report increased activity around the Lucky Day shelf, where highly sought-after titles can sometimes be checked out immediately, no waiting list required.

Library regulars describe the experience as part strategy, part timing, and part pure luck. One moment a bestseller may have hundreds of people waiting for it, and the next moment a copy appears on the Lucky Day shelf, ready for a fortunate patron to claim. Rumor has it that some visitors now make a beeline for the shelf before heading anywhere else in the building.

As for how these coveted books appear so quickly, opinions vary. Some say it’s magic. Others insist it’s good Library planning. Either way, the Lucky Day shelf continues to live up to its name, proving that sometimes the best things come to those who just happen to stop by.
