Oregon Legacy:
The Friends of Driftwood Library will present the literary series Oregon Legacy to the Lincoln County community at Driftwood Public Library at 3:00 p.m. on each of the four Sunday afternoons in February 2025.

Thirty-one years ago, Driftwood Public Library completed a move into its current facility at Lincoln Square in Lincoln City. To celebrate the library’s new home and to thank the community for all of its support during the transition, The Friends of Driftwood Public Library created a gift for the community. With little resources beyond the income from their occasional book sales, the Friends underwrote the first literary series ever presented in Lincoln County: Oregon Legacy. Each year they have renewed that sponsorship.

All Oregon Legacy presentations are free due to the generous support of The Friends as well as Shearwater Inn, Pelican Shores Inn, and Looking Glass Inn who generously donate lodging for our visiting authors. Each presentation begins at 3:00 p.m.

The library is located on the second floor of the City Hall building at 801 SW Hwy 101 in Lincoln City, just across the street from Burger King and adjacent to McKay’s Market grocery store. For further information about the Oregon Legacy series, contact Ken Hobson at khobson@lincolncity.org. Visit Driftwood’s website at www.driftwoodlib.org.

A Death Cafe is a space where people drink tea/coffee/beer, eat cake, and talk about death. The idea originates with the Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz, who organized the first Cafe Mortal in 2004. Together we will create community around death, dying, and grief. Our Death Cafe will be facilitated by Crystal Akins a Death Doula who lives in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Oregon State Parks Parking Passes

Thanks to a partnership with Oregon State Parks, the library now offers day-use Oregon State Parks parking passes for checkout! While most State Parks do not charge for parking, there are 25 parks (many of them local to the Coast) that charge a fee for day-use parking. Library patrons can avoid this fee by checking out one of our four parking passes! For a complete list of State Parks that require a fee or a pass to park, please visit the Oregon State Parks website.

Passes check out for two weeks, and you must be a Driftwood Public Library cardholder. Planning a trip to an Oregon State Park? Stop by the library today and ask for one at the front desk.

Toniebox Kits

Thanks to our Friends of the Driftwood Library and Tonie, we now have 6 Toniebox Kits ready for circulation! Each kit comes with a Toniebox, charger, and 4 - 6 Tonie characters for a screen-free song and audiobook experience.

Toniebox kits check out for two weeks and you must be a Driftwood Public Library cardholder. Information sheets will be available in the Children's Room or you can ask for a specific kit at the front desk. All kits must be checked out and returned to the front desk as they will not fit in the bookdrop.

Kits available:

Llama/Peppa/Pete - 6 Tonies with songs, stories, and potty-training
National Geographic for Kids - 6 Tonies each featuring a different topic

Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes!

We realized that it's not possible for everyone to be at the library when we open on the first of the month, so to make distribution of our Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes as fair as possible, we've made some changes to how we’ll distribute them: we will now be drawing names for passes on the first of each month.

Only adult Driftwood cardholders are eligible to enter the lottery. To enter, simply visit the library, give us a call at 541-996-2277, or email librarian@lincolncity.org. We'll need your name and phone number, and we ask that only one person per household or family enter their name for the lottery. You'll only need to enter the lottery once: those entrants whose names aren’t drawn will automatically be rolled into the next month’s lottery.

Each pass allows the cardholder and three guests free general admission to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There are four passes available per month.  Passes check out for up to 30 days, and can be checked out once per calendar year. To add your name to the lottery list, call the library at 541-996-2277. Please have your library card ready.

For more information, visit https://www.driftwoodlib.org/culturepass.php

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Franz Bakery Foundation, U.S. Bank, the Doris & Michael Garcia Fund, the Oregon Cultural Trust, and the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition.

Curbside Pick Up Still an Option

Whether you have lingering COVID concerns, or simply find that picking items up at our Galley Avenue entrance is more convenient for you, we continue to offer curbside service to our cardholders as a quick, easy way to pick up your holds.

Give the library a call at 541-996-2277, press 1 at the menu, to schedule your curbside appointment. Please call at least 30 minutes before you would like to arrive in order to give staff time to put your order together and check it out for you. Curbside pick up is available at our back door on Galley St. from when we open at 10:00 AM until we close at 6:00 PM.

Did you know?

Library2Go ebooks and e-audiobooks (available through the Libby app) now show up in your catalog search results? If the book is marked with [electronic resource] and includes the information, "Click to access digital title through Overdrive," it is a title that any cardholder can download! Just follow the link and sign into your Library2Go account.
