Register to Vote:
Are you ready to vote in November? Have you registered in Oregon yet? Tuesday, October 15th is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 5th General Election (Presidential Election).

If you’re not sure whether you’re registered to vote, or just want to make sure your registration is still active, you can easily check your voter status at the Oregon Secretary of State’s My Vote* website. Click on the blue “Go to My Vote” button, you’ll be asked to prove you’re not a robot, then asked to enter your first name, last name, and date of birth. Click the “submit” button and you’ll be able to see your current voter status.

Most people are automatically registered to vote when they apply for an Oregon driver’s license or other photo ID at the DMV. However, if you’re not registered, you can pick up Oregon State voter registration forms here at the library. Look for the large red, white, and blue “VOTE” poster just past the front desk, or ask a staff member and they’ll direct you to the forms. The form will ask you for your basic contact information, then for your Oregon Driver’s License Number, or your Social Security Number, or, if you have neither, you’ll be asked to attach a copy of an acceptable alternate form of identification from the list on the form. Once you fill out the form, you simply have to mail it or deliver it to the County Clerk’s office in Newport. To be valid for this year’s Presidential election, your form must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, October 15th.

In Oregon, you can also register to vote online. Simply visit the Online Voter Registration Page on the Secretary of State’s website** and click on the blue “Register to Vote Now” button. You’ll be asked two qualifying yes/no questions (Are you a U.S. citizen? and Are you at least 16 years of age?), then taken to the registration page after you click the blue “continue” button. Simply fill out the requested information, submit, and you’re registered to vote! Online voter registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15th in order to be eligible to vote in this year’s Presidential election.

No matter which party you register with, or with whom your allegiance lies, voting is one of the most important activities you can take part in as a U.S. citizen. Make sure you’re registered, and if not, please register today! And then remember to VOTE!

Driftwood Bookworms Book Club:
We have always lived in the castle
by Shirley Jackson

Six years after four family members died suspiciously of arsenic poisoning, the three remaining Blackwoods' elder, agoraphobic sister Constance; wheelchair-bound Uncle Julian; and eighteen-year-old Mary Katherine, or, Merricat, live together in pleasant isolation. Merricat has developed an idiosyncratic system of rules and protective magic to guard the estate against intrusions from hostile villagers. But one day a stranger arrives: cousin Charles, with his eye on the Blackwood fortune, and manages to penetrate into their carefully shielded lives. Unable to drive him away by either polite or occult means, Merricat adopts more desperate methods, resulting in crisis, tragedy, and the revelation of a terrible secret

Death Cafe Meetings:
Meetings will be the last Friday of the Month from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

A Death Cafe is a space where people drink tea/coffee/beer, eat cake, and talk about death. The idea originates with the Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz, who organized the first Cafe Mortal in 2004. Together we will create community around death, dying, and grief. Our Death Cafe will be facilitated by Crystal Akins a Death Doula who lives in Lincoln City, Oregon.

To register contact Crystal Akins

http://encore.oceanbooks.org/iii/encore/record/C__Rb1546311Oregon State Parks Parking Passes

Thanks to a partnership with Oregon State Parks, the library now offers day-use Oregon State Parks parking passes for checkout! While most State Parks do not charge for parking, there are 25 parks (many of them local to the Coast) that charge a fee for day-use parking. Library patrons can avoid this fee by checking out one of our four parking passes! For a complete list of State Parks that require a fee or a pass to park, please visit the Oregon State Parks website.

Passes check out for two weeks, and you must be a Driftwood Public Library cardholder. Planning a trip to an Oregon State Park? Stop by the library today and ask for one at the front desk.

Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes!

We realized that it's not possible for everyone to be at the library when we open on the first of the month, so to make distribution of our Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes as fair as possible, we've made some changes to how we’ll distribute them: we will now be drawing names for passes on the first of each month.

Only adult Driftwood cardholders are eligible to enter the lottery. To enter, simply visit the library, give us a call at 541-996-2277, or email librarian@lincolncity.org. We'll need your name and phone number, and we ask that only one person per household or family enter their name for the lottery. You'll only need to enter the lottery once: those entrants whose names aren’t drawn will automatically be rolled into the next month’s lottery.

Each pass allows the cardholder and three guests free general admission to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There are four passes available per month.  Passes check out for up to 30 days, and can be checked out once per calendar year. To add your name to the lottery list, call the library at 541-996-2277. Please have your library card ready.

For more information, visit https://www.driftwoodlib.org/culturepass.php

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Franz Bakery Foundation, U.S. Bank, the Doris & Michael Garcia Fund, the Oregon Cultural Trust, and the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition.

Curbside Pick Up Still an Option

Whether you have lingering COVID concerns, or simply find that picking items up at our Galley Avenue entrance is more convenient for you, we continue to offer curbside service to our cardholders as a quick, easy way to pick up your holds.

Give the library a call at 541-996-2277, press 1 at the menu, to schedule your curbside appointment. Please call at least 30 minutes before you would like to arrive in order to give staff time to put your order together and check it out for you. Curbside pick up is available at our back door on Galley St. from when we open at 10:00 AM until we close at 6:00 PM.

Did you know?

Library2Go ebooks and e-audiobooks (available through the Libby app) now show up in your catalog search results? If the book is marked with [electronic resource] and includes the information, "Click to access digital title through Overdrive," it is a title that any cardholder can download! Just follow the link and sign into your Library2Go account.
