Happy Almost Autumn!  The Local Author Quarterly is a Library newsletter highlighting library events of interest to writers of all kinds. Whether you are a poet, a novelist, a journalist or a biographer, we're excited to share resources with you.

Banned Books Week
 
As librarians, we take the freedom to read very seriously, and as authors, we bet you do too.  
 
At Los Gatos Library, we believe:
  • Books are tools for understanding complex issues, at any age.
  • Everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in a library’s books.
  • Individuals should be trusted to make their own decisions about what to read.
Join us in celebrating your freedom to read!  Swing by the library and write a postcard to your congressional representative, or add a leaf to our Poet tree.  Be sure to listen to our special Banned Books Week Episode of our podcast, The Page Turner.   Visit our Teen Room to see what it would look like without the books that have been banned or challenged across the country.  And don't miss the chance to check out a book from one of our Banned Books Week displays.

Featured Local Author
Featured Author : Anessa Praphaisri Tjarks
Anessa was born in Bangkok, Thailand and grew up in a one square mile town, Albany, California. She stayed connected to her roots during her childhood by attending the local Thai Temple where she learned about her culture, attended classes, and performed traditional Thai dances. She had the opportunity to participate in a dance tour in Thailand through the Temple. At nine years old, she even preformed for the Queen of Thailand. These cultural experiences inspired her to write a book with reflections of her Thai heritage, and influence for her children.
 
Today, she is a wife to a loving and supportive husband. A mother to three fun-filled, energetic boys who give her the opportunity to explore her imagination and grow creatively. 
 
 
 
 
The Three Boys
This sweet story written in dual languages will be an enjoyable resource to help you If you are a parent or caregiver who is trying to raise a bilingual child, or a new language learner who is trying to strengthen your Thai or English proficiency.
Whether you're a native Thai speaker who wishes to learn English, or an English speaker who wants to improve your Thai, the story is written in both Thai and English to help you learn the second language of your choice.
The Midnight Snack Party
Two sisters with boundless imagination, decide to embark on a mischievous mission to create a midnight snack party. Can they sneak downstairs, hand in hand, without waking their parents? Read on to see if they can pull off their deliciously sneaky plan! This heartwarming tale is based on a cherished childhood memory, and written by a mother and son duo.
