Haunted Gingerbread House Competition is October 22
 
It’s the ultimate Halloween construction competition. Build a haunted gingerbread house out of candies and other goodies a week ahead of the holiday.

Teens, ages 12-18, can work individually or in pairs to create their haunted gingerbread house during Rodman Public Library’s contest between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 inside Rodman Auditorium.

Competitors will use edible supplies provided by the library, thanks to the generous support from Friends of Rodman Library.

Judges will decide which haunted gingerbread house is the best and winner(s) will receive a prize. 

The competition is free to enter, but registration is required.

MONTHLY PROGRAMS AT RPL
 
Tabletop Gaming for Teens
 
Teen Tabletop Gaming is held on the first Tuesday of each month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Exclusively for youth, ages 12 to 18, teens will enjoy playing card and board games with their friends and will be treated to snacks. Players are welcome to continue their games into the evening when the popular Tabletop Gaming, a monthly program for all ages, convenes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The two programs will be held back-to-back each month.  No registration is required.
October's session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6.

Teen D&D 
 
Teens, 12-18, can sign up at Rodman Public Library to participate in an ongoing series of “one-shot” Dungeons and Dragons missions every month. Players do not have to play consistently each month to participate.
 
Those interested can sign up via our online calendar on a month-to-month basis. Space will be limited each month to six players. A DnD Beyond account and email address is required to play. 
 
Sessions are usually held on the second Monday of each month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. October's session will be held a week later on October 19 due to scheduling conflicts.
 
Teen Craft Club

Teen Craft Club is offered in the Library Makerspace on the fourth Monday of each month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. In October, the event will be held October 26. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can join in anytime during the two-hour period to craft and chat. Supplies for specific crafts will be provided each month, but teens are welcome to bring their own materials to work on a craft of their choosing. The program is free, but space is limited and
registration is required.

Nintendo Cafe for Teens
 
Nintendo Café for Teens will be held on Tuesday, October 27 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can stop into the Rodman Auditorium anytime during the two-hour program for a sweet snack and to hang out with their friends while playing on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles provided by the library. Teens are also invited to bring in their own Nintendo device to play. Future Nintendo Café events are planned for November 24 and December 22. No registration is required.

Costume Closet Open October 10
 Rodman Public Library will host its annual Costume Closet on Saturday, October 10.

Beginning at 10 a.m., patrons of all ages can visit the Main Library and choose a "pre-loved look" on a first-come, first-served basis until the supply runs out.

A wide selection of used costumes will be available in many sizes. One costume may be taken per person and each person must be in attendance to claim a costume.
 
Puzzle Swap at the Branch Runs October 11-17
 
Give a puzzle. Take a puzzle.
 
The Puzzle Swap is back at Rodman Branch Library and it's bigger and better than ever before.
 
During operating hours between October 11 and October 17, patrons of all ages can bring a jigsaw puzzle to the Branch Library and exchange it for another puzzle from a large assortment available on tables in the lobby outside the Branch entrance. 
 
Puzzles being brought in to swap should be in good condition and stored in a proper container with a picture of the finished puzzle on the front. Preferably, the puzzles should contain all of its pieces.
 
However, if a puzzle is missing a piece or two, please mark the box as such.
Patrons may bring in as many puzzles to swap as they would like. For instance, bring in 10 puzzles and take 10 like new puzzles home to enjoy.

ages 12 to 18, to join the Teen Book Club, which meets every third Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. at the Main Library.

ON THE RPL BIG SCREEN
Addams Family
is Interactive Experience

Rodman Public Library will screen The Addams Family (2019) as an interactive experience
at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.
Participants will be given a bag of props and goodies to enjoy while watching the family-friendly film in Rodman Auditorium.
As always, the event is free to attend, but due to it being a special interactive showing,
registration is required.
COMMUNITY EXPLORATION PASSES
Raptor Hallow Joins Program

Family passes to visit Raptor Hallow Sanctuary inside Butler-Rodman Park are now available through RPL's Community Exploration Passes program. Patrons with a valid RPL card can check out a pass that will admit two adults and all children living in the same household to the attraction.

FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
Tabletop Gaming
 
Tabletop Gaming, a popular all-ages program continues at the Main Library at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6.
 
Each month, a new game will be featured so that patrons can learn a new game. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available and visitors are always welcome to bring their own games.
 
The free monthly event is usually held on the first Tuesday of each month, but is being held a week later in August due to the used book sale conducted by Friends of Rodman Library. 
 
No registration is required
to attend the monthly program.
 
Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Rodman Chess Club 
 
The popular Rodman Chess Club will be held inside the Rodman Auditorium on from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21. Although it is called a club, the program has no formal membership and is open to all interested in the ancient game of strategy. Players of all ages and levels are welcome to come and go throughout the evening. Several boards are set up in the auditorium and players mingle to find opponents. Chess Club is held on the third Wednesday of each month.
