Summer Reading Continues at RPL Rodman Public Library invites all of its patrons – young, mature, and anyone in between – to take part in the 2024 Summer Reading Program. It's still not too late to sign up. The program, which will run from through Saturday, July 27, will feature three divisions, including one for children (up to 12 years old), one for teens (ages 12 to 18) and one for adults (18 years and older). Patrons can sign up in person at the Main Library, the Branch Library, or on the Bookmobile. Patrons may also sign up online at rodmanlibrary.beanstack.org, or through the Beanstack app, which they can download on a mobile device.

Tabletop Gaming A popular all-ages program is held monthly at the Main Library when a new game is featured. The next program is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available for visitors to play and those attending are always welcome to bring their own games. The aim of the family program is to give area residents an opportunity to gather with others to play their favorite board games and make new friends. Light snacks will be offered and no registration is required to attend. Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Books and Coffee The Books and Coffee Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. True Crime Junkies The True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group, meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the June 16 meeting is Starkweather: The Untold Story of the Killing Spree that Changed America by Mona Gable Books can be obtained through the Rodman Library catalog or the Ohio Digital Library. Cookbook Club Meets every last Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the main Library. Participants choose a recipe from the selected cookbook and then share their experiences, along with tips, tricks and advice on what they would do differently. Participants during the July 30 meeting will create a recipe they chose during June’s meeting from another cook’s favorite cookbook. Those who did not attend June’s meeting should create a recipe from their favorite personal cookbook. Participants can bring in small samples of their recipes for the group to try. Chess Club The Rodman Chess Club is open to patrons of all ages who have an interest in the classic board game. Come make new friends and explore the ancient game of strategy. Alliance Vinyl Club Open to all music lovers, Alliance Vinyl Club will undergo a schedule change in 2024, meeting every other month. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each even-numbered month — February, April, June, August, October, and December — inside the Main Library auditorium. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 7. Supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library, AVC provides the opportunity to listen to music, hang out, and make new friends. Those attending are encouraged to bring some of their favorite records to share a selection or two with others. Cpl. Reed W. Knowles (ABOVE) of Company K, 8th Regiment OVI, was the first Alliance man to die while on active duty during the Spanish-American War. In this photo he is pictured at Camp Alger, Washington, D.C. Knowles died of typhoid fever on July 28, 1898 and was buried in a grave on Sevilla Hill in Santiago, Cuba, which is shown at right.
