CELEBRATING AREA WRITERS
Local Author Day is April 11

April 11 is Local Author Day at Rodman Public Library. On that Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., six local authors – Laura Ball, Amber Cole, Winnifred Holly, Marianne May, Kristen Kerns, and Havelah McLat – will greet patrons inside the Main Auditorium. Most will have copies of their books for sale and will sign them for readers.
 FORGOTTEN FOUNDERS SERIES
James Otis Jr. is 'Forgotten Founders'
Lecture Subject for April

He provided the spark that ignited the fight for independence, yet his name is not as widely recognized among the early patriots of the United States, making James Otis Jr. a perfect subject for the April installment of the “Forgotten Founders” lecture series.

At 6 p.m. on Monday, April 13, local history enthusiast Sid Zufall will enlighten Rodman Library patrons about the influential figure when he presents “James Otis Jr.: The Forgotten Flame of American Liberty."

Registration is required to attend the event.

of Longtime Employee Kelley Poyser

The staff at Rodman Public Library is mourning the loss of longtime employee Kelley Poyser.

“Kelley was a dedicated employee who genuinely cared about the library and her co-workers,” said Rodman Public Library Director Eric D. Taggart. “She was also very proud of her family, and she was well-known in the area for her unwavering advocacy for animals.  She was an asset to the library, and I will remember her as one of the most loyal and honest people that I have ever known.  She will be missed.”

Poyser, 62, served as the deputy clerk-treasurer at Rodman Public Library for the last 19 years and was proud of her clean audits.

A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST
A fog covers Public Square as the snow begins to melt after Alliance was hit with more than 26 inches of snow over a period of 36 hours between April 19-20, 1901. Known as the “great snow,” the storm left drifts as deep as 10 to 12 feet and all railroad traffic was blocked as a result. Businesses visible in this view of East Main Street looking west towards Public Square include Mowrer and Antram (606), Turnipseed & Steffy (514), Cassaday Drugs (444), J. C. Sharer Jewelry (426), Koch Clothing House (520), and Rockhill & Morris lawyers. The business at the corner of Public Square is J. B. Martin & Sons (451). This photo is one of thousands of materials can be found at alliancememory.org, a collaboration between Rodman Public Library and the Alliance Historical Society, which is a partner of the Alliance Area Preservation Society and Castle Crusaders, two other historic resources in the Carnation City. Collectively, they are known as the 3 Families. Alliance Memory offers a view of history through photographs, personal recollections, and documents. To access RPL's local history and genealogy resources, visit rodmanlibrary.com/genealogy, or call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.
