Book Sale Time! Held in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival, the Friends of Rodman Public Library’s 2024 Used Book Sale will be held at The Commons, 405 S. Linden Ave., from Saturday, August 3 through Wednesday, August 7.More than 10,000 items are available for sale, including books of all genres and subjects, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, as well as some puzzles and board games.

DAR to Host Traveling Exhibit in RPL Auditorium The Alliance-based Jane Bain Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is collaborating with the American Battlefield Trust to support an “American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit” celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The 12-panel exhibit and three interactive kiosks, aimed at audiences of all ages, will be on display inside the Rodman Public Library Auditorium from Monday, August 12 through Friday, August 16.

Tabletop Gaming A popular all-ages program is held monthly at the Main Library when a new game is featured. The next program is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available for visitors to play and those attending are always welcome to bring their own games. The aim of the family program is to give area residents an opportunity to gather with others to play their favorite board games and make new friends. Light snacks will be offered and no registration is required to attend. Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Cookbook Club The Cookbook Club, a group for cooking and baking enthusiasts, meets on the last Tuesday each month to discuss their experience creating a recipe of their choice from a selected cookbook. Participants can bring in small samples of their recipes for the group to try. The Selected cookbook for the August 27 meeting is 5-Ingredient Family Favorites, published by Gooseberry Patch. Alliance Vinyl Club Open to all music lovers, Alliance Vinyl Club will undergo a schedule change in 2024, meeting every other month. The group usually meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each even-numbered month inside the Main Library auditorium, however the club is taking a break in August. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 2. Supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library, AVC provides the opportunity to listen to music, hang out, and make new friends. Those attending are encouraged to bring some of their favorite records to share a selection or two with others. North Park School was located on North Park Avenue and East Washington Street It was built in 1892 on the same site as the old Union School (1856-57) and had used the same plans as North Franklin School. It was abandoned circa 1944 and torn down in August 1964 following a fire.
