APRIL IS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
 
The Poetry of Faleeha Hassan: an Evening of Readings

We are very happy to welcome back Pulitzer Prize nominated and Washington Township resident, Faleeha Hassan, for an evening of poetry readings at the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library.
This is an event you won’t want to miss!
Hassan is a poet, teacher, editor, writer, and playwright born in Najaf, Iraq. She received her master's degree in Arabic literature, and just recently published her 26th book, A Goat in a Tequila Cup, in October of 2024. Her poems have been translated into over 20 languages.
 
COLLECTING SPORTS MEMORABILIA
Dr. Nicholas DePace from the DePace Sports Museum

The DePace Sports Museum in Washington Township contains some of the most treasured sports artifacts in sports history. Dr. Nicholas L. DePace, founder of the museum, will be speaking about how his passion for collecting baseball cards evolved into the DePace Sports Museum.
ZINE STUDIO
Zine Studio
Friday, April 11, 3:30pm
 
Join us to create zines and connect with local artists! Blank zines, as well as collaging and drawing materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies too. Printing and copy services available for your zine creations. Come and create zines in a collaborative, low-stress environment.

This book is a #1 New York Times Bestseller, a Time 100 Must-Read Book of 2024, and The Goodreads Choice Award Nonfiction Book of the Year. A must-read for all parents: the generation defining investigation into the collapse of youth mental health in the era of smartphones, social media, and big tech-and a plan for a healthier, freer childhood. The Rambling Readers: A Walking Book Group

Attention all book lovers! Meet Librarian Jenn at Washington Lake Park for a leisurely stroll through the park, while we discuss our latest read. There is no specific book assigned to read. Discuss your favorite, or least favorite, book. Make suggestions to others on books they may enjoy. Learn from others new books to add to your reading list. This group is for anyone who enjoys reading, regardless of who or what you like to read. All this, while getting your steps in for the day. We will cover approximately 1-1.5 miles. Please wear comfortable clothes/footwear. We will meet in Lot A. This program is open to all adults. Advance registration is required. Please provide a contact number, in case we have to cancel the program due to inclement weather.

New Jersey Audubon Presents: Birding Basics

Discover the diversity of birds that share your neighborhood! Learn tools and tricks for finding and identifying birds both by sight and sound. We will discuss how you can contribute to citizen science and utilize a variety of resources to continue to sharpen your skills. Presented by New Jersey Audubon. This program is open to all. Advance registration is required. This program is sponsored by the Washington Township Environmental Commission.
Microsoft Word: Learn how to create, format, and save a document

Learn the basics of Microsoft Word in this hands-on workshop! We'll guide you through creating, formatting, and saving documents with ease. Whether you're new to Word or need a refresher, this session will help you build the skills to create professional-looking documents in no time. This program is open to all adults. Those attending must be comfortable using a mouse and keyboard. The program will be held in the computer lab. Attendees will work through a self-directed course on DigitalLearn, a platform of the Public Library Association, and a librarian will assist learners with their questions as they go through the course.

Introduction to Google Maps

Explore the world with Google Maps! Join us at the library for a hands-on session where you'll learn how to navigate, discover new places, and use cool features like Street View and real-time traffic updates. Whether you're planning a trip or just curious, this workshop will help you master Google Maps and make the most of your travels. This program is open to all adults. Anyone attending should be comfortable with using a mouse and keyboard. the program will be held in our computer lab. Attendees will work through a self-directed course on DigitalLearn, a platform of the Public Library Association, and a librarian will assist learners with their questions as they go through the course.
Open Mic Night

Come explore and engage with your community of artists by participating in the library's Open Mic Night! We hope to have a lovely evening of performances. This event will be held in our Meeting Room and is open to everyone ages 18 and up. Registration is required to attend the event, and performers should come early to sign up for your slot.
Magic: the Gathering Commander Night

If you play Magic: The Gathering, come to the library for our Commander night! Calling all planeswalkers! Enjoy casual games against fellow Magic: The Gathering players! Sound Stories: Unlocking eAudiobooks Through Our Library

Do you love audiobooks? Did you know you can listen to audiobooks on your phone, computer, or other device? If this sounds interesting, but you don't know how to get started, then this is the perfect class for you! Librarian Jenn will show you how to install and use our three digital sources for audiobooks; Blackstone, Hoopla, and Overdrive/Libby. Please bring the device(s) you plan to use. This program is limited to Heggan cardholders. All attendees must have their library card and PIN.

Babysitting Club

Is your goal to earn a little money by babysitting? Do you want to have answers for many of the what-ifs of taking care of younger siblings and children? This program is designed to give teens and tweens the tools needed to build confidence, find success, and earn some money along the way. From preconceived expectations through safety issues, we discuss how having a babysitting plan with numerous activity options and journaling can make the experience an enjoyable one. Whether house, sitting, babysitting, or pet sitting, we’ll discuss it all. This group is open to teens and tweens in grades 6-12. Preference is given to Heggan Library cardholders. Register now.
Teen Art Club

Explore your interest in art with friends. Participants will have time, space, and materials to create. This monthly club will be led by a Teen Advisory Board member and is meant to allow teens to explore all things ART! Come check it out and have fun while exploring favorite artistic mediums and hanging out with like-minded friends. Meetings include discussions, art challenges, time for participants to work on individual projects, collaborations with fellow members, or simply hanging out while incubating one’s creative genius. Come join us to create and have a supportive sounding board for your creativity. The Art Club is open to Teens and Tween in grades 6-12.

Would you like to learn more about the cultures that make up Washington Township? Would you like to learn more about your own? Come join the Teen & Tween Heritage Club! Each month we'll explore our different cultures. Teen leaders will determine the focus culture and the activities we'll explore. Activities can include: making crafts/items that are representative of a culture, foods specific to a culture, spending time online of one of our ancestry programs, and/or possibly learning some key words in the language of the culture. The topics are up to the teen presenter.
TAB Chapter Chat

Interested in lively teen and tween book discussions? Come join us to chat! Chapter Chat is a Heggan YA focused book club. This group is led by Teen Advisory Board members. This book club meets monthly to discuss popular authors and works of YA fiction. Participants generally select a theme for the books and authors to be discussed each month. Furs, Feathers, and Scales: Cedar Run Wildlife Center

This program gives students a better understanding of the different animal groups, and discusses how their body coverings serve many important purposes. Participants will be able to see and feel elements, bringing these concepts to life. They will also meet animals from the different groups to discover the diversity of life within an ecosystem. This program is open to anyone.
Kids' Crafternoon
