I want to share a great book I just finished that I'd borrowed from LOPL: Still Life by Sarah Winman, a book essentially about love in its so many different forms. A dear friend, a voracious reader who easily reads 5 or 6 books a month, recommended it, adding that she's already read it three times. Said she couldn't wait for me to meet all those wonderful people for the first time. . . people who would soon be lifelong friends. Indeed!
 
I knew right away that I wanted to own it to read again (and again!), so as a member of and believer in the mission of the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library, I checked the Booktique's website first. Voila! It was there! The manager kindly arranged to have it set aside for me, and I rushed over the next day. It's in perfect condition, and I am so happy to own it (not to mention the good feeling of having given a wee bit of support to the Friends).    
 
The Summer Library Challenge is fun! (Who knew I spent so much time reading?!) I love it!

YA graphic novel series called, A Silent Voice, by Yoshitoki Ōima.
 
It’s a favorite of mine, made me laugh, made me anxious, and made me cry.
The story is from the perspective of a bully who goes too far in harassing a deaf girl in elementary school. The series takes place years later in high school where he tries to redeem himself and reconnect with the girl. It’s a fascinating read because the bully becomes socially isolated by his actions in elementary school and thus also being bullied. The personal struggles and different layers to each character throughout the series keeps you enthralled until the end. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s an award-winning series with an animated film out. I will warn that there are triggering scenes in it relating to suicide.

Philip and Alexander: Kings and Conquerors by Adrian Goldsworthy

I am looking forward to listening to this CD audiobook from respected British historian Adrian Goldsworthy! The book discusses the creation of the Macedonian war machine by Philip II of Macedon, and its employment by his son Alexander the Great, to create a vast but short-lived empire.

The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore
 
This book is a nice blend of drama, science, and romance and not too heavy in any one direction. It whets your appetite to learn more about Edison, Westinghouse, and Tessla. Lots of interesting quotes begin each chapter. The reader of the audio version does a nice job portraying Tesla.
