As we welcome the new year, Morrison-Talbott Library is busy preparing a variety of fun and engaging programs for the whole community. Below are just a few of the upcoming activities designed especially for adults. - Illinois Libraries Presents is a statewide partnership of public libraries that brings live, online author events featuring nationally recognized writers and speakers to communities across Illinois. Through this collaboration, Morrison-Talbott Library is able to offer high-quality programs that would be difficult to host on our own. Below is the lineup of featured authors and the dates of their virtual events for the first half of 2026.
Bringing History to Life with Jonathan Eig Tues., Jan. 13, 2026 7-8 p.m. Still Afraid of the Dark: An Evening with R.L. Stine Tues., Feb. 24, 2026 7-8 p.m. Beyond the Page with Percival Everett Thurs., Mar. 19, 2026 7-8 p.m. Cristina Henríquez: Voice, Culture, & Human Connection Thurs., April 16, 2026 7-8 p.m. Babel-On with R.F. Kuang Tuesday, May 19, 2026 7-8 p.m. Registration for these online author events is easy through the library. We recommend signing up even if you can’t attend the live program, as many authors allow the event to be recorded. Registered participants will receive an email with a link to the recording to watch at their convenience. If you have any questions or need help with Illinois Libraries Presents programs, please let us know—we’re happy to assist. - Teams are still needed for the Great Morrison-Talbott Library Puzzle Race on Saturday, January 17, from 1–3 p.m. Eight teams of four will race to complete identical 500-piece puzzles. Registration is required, so grab your puzzle-loving friends and sign up soon!
- Lights, camera, connection! 🎬 We’re launching a brand-new Movie Night Club—meet up at RMC Cinema to enjoy a film together, then stick around for a fun, casual discussion. Interested? Join us for an introductory planning meeting on Thursday, January 8 at 6 p.m. at the library. If you love movies and good conversation, this club is for you!

Email and Text Notification Delivery Times
MTL pulls our hold request lists twice a day, once in the morning and again approximately an hour before we close in the evening. If you place a hold on an item that is in-house after we pull the list, then your request would not be processed until the following business day. Our library receives deliveries of requested books daily, Monday through Friday. Phone calls are placed once everything has been unloaded.
For those signed up for text or email notifications, hold notices from the library service provider are sent out four times throughout the day: 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m. Please note that your carrier may result in slight delays in receiving these notifications so don’t worry if you don’t get a message exactly on the hour. You can call or respond to email notifications and library staff will do our best to respond in kind. Text messages are automated and not easily responded to. Kara Cataloger
