CSLP Manual Updates & Corrections When logged into the manual here: https://www.cslpreads.org/2024-adventure-begins-at-your-library/ you will see a column on the right side now that has Updates & Corrections, as well as a section for Outdoor Programming (the handouts from the Symposium) and some Canva templates I created (I’m still working on testing these).
Updated elements include the Read with Reed Maze printable (it was made solvable), the Children’s Printable Camping Jumble (the answer key was updated) and the Bird Watch Quest (the bird ID/song ID activity booklet was updated to be printable double-sided) and we included instructions for successful printing. That latter activity was highlighted at the Symposium and we had some input that it wasn’t easy to duplicate the way it was printing, so we had our graphic designer improve it.

Montgomery Floyd Regional Library
The Sensory Museum began as a program to meet the needs of our population of teen and adult patrons with disabilities. Sensory programs have been wildly popular with our 5 and under group, but not only is this program helpful to our young children, sensory play is tremendously helpful for the neurodivergent population and people struggling with mental health. Everyone can benefit from sensory play to regulate our nervous systems. The program is held after hours in our community room. The lights are dimmed to reduce over stimulation from fluorescent lights, calming music is played on the overhead projector with visually stimulating images. Around the room patrons can visit stations containing different sensory experiences such as Orbeez, rice bins, zen gardens, kinetic sand, glow painting, fiber optic and plasma ball lamps, water painting, and a sensory light projector tent that shines calming patterns and colors of light onto the canopy of the tent. Occasionally, our local therapy dogs join us for the program. Patrons may choose a fidget toy on their way out to expand tools to help regulate in stressful or overwhelming situations. Patrons from ages 8+ have enjoyed this program, remarking that it has been very helpful for their neurodivergent children and selves. No matter what your age, sensory play can bring out our playful sides and help us unwind!
