Nature Backpacks
The State Park parking passes for the Discovery backpacks are expiring at the end of this year (2025). We have received the updated passes that are good until December 2028. Look for an upcoming survey that will ask who coordinates the backpacks at your library system, how many backpacks you have, and your mailing address.
Nearly all Virginia State Parks charge a per car parking fee for entrance. Two parks charge a per person fee: Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum state parks. Annual Passes include admission for up to 4 at Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum state parks. |

The Professional Development Committee is proud to announce a second CSLP/Building Community-Based Summers Cohort will convene this Fall. This six-session interactive discussion series will be open to applicants from CSLP member libraries.
Each participating library should be represented by a team of at least two staff members. Libraries are encouraged to send staff from across departments and can include youth services and/or adult services staff, programming coordinators, summer library program coordinators, outreach staff, and administrators. Participation in the BCBS initiative will require, of all team members:
- Active attendance and participation using cameras, shared whiteboards, and breakout rooms.
- Participation in an introductory orientation before the learning sessions begin.
- Additional work will be required within your library and community to begin to consider and assess your existing and planned summer programs and services through an equity lens. Expect to spend approximently 2 hours/week doing this work, in addition to the virtual sessions.
CSLP member libraries are invited to learn more about the upcoming CSLP/BCBS cohort and apply by end of business on Monday, August 25, 2025, to be considered for the Fall cohort. Accepted participants will be notified the first week of September.
