CSLP Virtual Symposium - Save the Date! The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) will host its 3rd annual CSLP Summer Symposium. This half day virtual offering is for public library staff to connect, learn, and collaborate as we plan for summer library programming around the upcoming theme of Adventure Begins at your Library. Scheduled for 11:00 AM ET – 4:30 PM ET, Thursday, December 7, 2023, speakers and topics will be announced soon.
CSLP Ordering CLSP ordering for materials for summer reading 2024 will take place in mid-October for Virginia public libraries. The CLSP store opens on October 2 if you are buying additional items using library or local funds.
Programming To Infinity and Beyond Ever find yourself in need of a ready-made programming solution? Maybe you're planning an event series that would be enhanced by a coordinated theme? Or, perhaps you have a new staff member who would benefit from a treasure trove of ideas and a bank of planning guides? Or possibly... you just need additional inspiration? Whatever the case, remember that through your affiliation with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission—a Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) member library—you can use the CSLP program manuals beyond summer.
In fact, CSLP encourages libraries to retain materials for future use. This includes incorporating past programming materials into winter reading programs, everyday story times, and library events. For more information, visit the Rules of Use page on the CSLP website.

Invite a Peace Corps Volunteer to support your library programming!
Did you know that you can invite a returned Peace Corps Volunteer in your community to come participate in library programs for both youth and adults? For over 60 years, Peace Corps has partnered with host countries on projects related to environmental conservation, health, education, youth in development, and more. Volunteers have served in more than 140 countries, working on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations.
During and after their service, Peace Corps Volunteers also give back to communities in the U.S. by connecting with schools, clubs, youth groups, libraries, etc. to share about their international service experience. Via the Global Connections program, Peace Corps Volunteers can introduce your library patrons to a new world culture, provide global perspectives on the importance of volunteering, lead language lessons, and help inspire youth and adults to service.
This is a free program! Highlight the remarkable experience of a member of your community by requesting a connection with a returned Peace Corps Volunteer: https://www.peacecorps.gov/educators/global-connections/

Nottoway County Public Library
It's not uncommon for representatives of Virginia State Parks to bring their programs to public libraries - in August, the Nottoway County Public Library System decided to flip the script and take a library activity to Twin Lakes State Park. Early in the month, we took our excess (Summer Reading) Take & Make kits to the park, giving children the chance to make butterfly sun catchers, and we returned two weeks later with birdhouses. Park visitors of all ages enjoyed painting the structures, and park staff members did, too. September 23 found us at Sailors Creek Battlefield State Park, offering a themed Story Time and craft activities at 1:00, prior to the Park's own Spiders of the Piedmont program at 2:00.
