A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR

Happy July! Happy Summer!
We hope you have a wonderful Independence Day, and take to heart the Oscar Wilde quote,"With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?"  I also like this one from Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, “If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are rotten, either write things worth reading or do things worth the writing.”

You can do both! Kill two birds with one stone by participating in our Summer Reading Challenge while also participating in the 24 in '24 Reading Challenge! That would be worth writing about! You can also leave your mark with Fireworks Chalk Art on July 3rd.

In case you didn't know, we had a Summer Reading kickoff party on June 22nd with refreshments provided by the Friends of the Everett Public Libraries. The Friends will also be funding prizes for both of our reading challenges. They also provide supplies for many of our programs, like paint nights and solar eclipse glasses.

If you lived through our nation's Bicentennial, you can reminisce at The Me Decade: A Cultural Review of the 1970's Through Music sponsored by the Everett Cultural Council. If that's not your thing, read to a lizard at the Shute ! See our online calendar for dates and times!

Have a great July!

FROM THE FRIENDS

Summer is officially upon us and in full swing! Have you signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge yet? The Friends were pleased to help support the kickoff party with refreshments and will be providing prizes for the end-of-challenge celebration. We were happy to support the Art Journal Paint Night in June. In July, we're looking forward to continued movies (for kids and grown-ups!), drop-in board games, and all the other ways the Library is helping us beat the heat!

The Friends have also been busy refreshing the toys and games in the children's collection at the Shute Library. Additionally, we've been happy to provide the board games for the upcoming program at the Shute and even dice for the Parlin's Dungeons & Dragons sessions (which will be available for checkout soon, should you want to play D&D at home!).
