Leach Library Building Update
On the morning of January 27, Leach Library staff discovered a ground-level radiator pipe had burst over the weekend in the teen area, causing extensive flooding. This pipe issue coincides with a facility maintenance issue relating to a persistent, but inconsistent leak near the main vestibule. The library investigated the possible presence of mold growth. Initial tests indicate the presence of mold spores in some locations of the building. Until more data can be acquired to identify potential health risks to library staff and patrons, the library building will be temporarily closed.

The library and Town have been working together to address the problem as quickly as possible. The full library staff is working in temporary spaces within the Town complex and operating a public satellite space in the Londonderry Police Department Community Room. This space is open to the public during normal library operating hours.

With funding authorized by the Town Council, the Library Board of Trustees selected ReArch Construction to manage both phases of the building project. Phase one is expected to take approximately three months to complete. This phase includes an extensive round of mold testing, repairs in the area impacted by the pipe burst, duct and HVAC cleaning, and an external envelope investigation to develop a resolution for historic leak and freezing issues. Once phase one and a successful mold retest are complete, the library staff will move back to the building, open accessible areas to the public, and plan for phase two.

To keep everyone safe, staff and workers entering the building wear N95 masks. Per the recommendation of our mold testing company, the surface of all collection materials is cleaned/disinfected before removal.

Please direct any questions to the library at reference@londonderrynh.gov or 603-432-1132.
