October Programs for Adults

Step into Neil Gaiman’s enchanting—and slightly spooky—world with a special outdoor screening of Coraline! The sun sets and shadows lengthen across the library lawn, guests of all ages are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and their favorite snacks to settle in for this fan-favorite film on the library’s large outdoor screen.

The film follows Coraline Jones, a curious young girl who discovers a hidden door in her new home—one that opens to an eerie “Other World” where everything seems perfect… at first. But behind the button-eyed smiles and enchanting promises lies something sinister, waiting to trap her forever. Both whimsical and unsettling, Coraline is a modern classic that blurs the line between wonder and dread.

Whether you’ve loved Coraline for years or are discovering it for the first time, this unique night at the library promises a cozy mix of wonder, mystery, and community fun.

*If the weather turns dreary, the movie will be cancelled.

Travel back to the 1860s and hear the music that kept spirits alive during one of America’s most turbulent times! Music and Musicians in the American Civil War isn’t just a talk—it’s a lively, toe-tapping journey through history.

As Dr. Michael L. Turney shares the fascinating story of why the Civil War is called “America’s most musical war,” a small ensemble will bring the era to life with stirring tunes played on lap dulcimers, banjos, and other period instruments. Imagine the campfires, the marching soldiers, and the 2,000 songs written in just the first year of the war—music that inspired, united, and still echoes today.

Don’t miss this chance to hear history sing! Perfect for music lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone ready for an evening of melody and memories.
