October is going to be a waddling good time at the library, so get your ducks in a row, and paddle on down to find out more about Ducks After Dark! We've also got some exciting science-related updates and events in store this month.

All you have to do is stop by the Brookfield Culver's for a delicious meal.
A percentage of all sales made between 4:00-8:00 pm on October 13th will be donated to the Butler Public Library. Support your local library with butter burgers and custard. It's a win-win!
We've Got STEM Storytellers Kits!
Our pal Corduroy had a blast with his DIY harmonica in last month's STEM Storyteller kit. Stop in this month to get the latest activity, a DIY balloon rocket! Check out a kit containing a science-themed book and supplies to make a STEM craft.
Keep the craft and return the rest.

Science Kits for Public Libraries Grant
Great ready for something big! We've received $2,000 from IEEE Milwaukee's Science Kits for Public Libraries Grant. We are so thankful to our generous donor and thrilled to have been selected to receive this fantastic grant. Be on the lookout for new STEAM kits in our Library of Things collection. Coming soon!

Coffee with a Cop
Saturday, October 4th
11:00 am
Joins us for a Saturday morning with the local Butler police officers. Get to know the officers, ask them questions, and learn how they're working to keep our community safe.
Fall Yarn Wrap Table Craft
We're welcoming autumn with a fun fall craft for all ages! Pick a template and wrap away. A simple craft to add some adorable Halloween cheer to your home. Located in the Front Reading Area.
 
Science in a Bag Pick-up Location
October 16th-26th

We are happy to partner with the Wisconsin Science Festival this month to bring more science fun to our community.
Celebrate science throughout Wisconsin! Held throughout the state on October 16-26, 2025, the festival welcomes people of all ages for hands-on science, performances, demonstrations and conversations with leading researchers and creative thinkers. Unleash your curiosity!

Here Come the Robots! 
Tuesday, October 21st
5:00 PM-6:00 am
We are excited to welcome Team 537 - Charger Robotics to the Butler Library for a robotics demo! Learn more about robotics, meet their robot Stretchy, and see how to drive a robot. A fun, STEM event for robot-lovers of all ages!
 
Help Us Name Our New
Duck Friend!
Use your spare change to help choose a name for our festive inflatable duckie! Every penny equals one vote, so the name which earns the most money, wins.
Last chance to vote will be at Ducks After Dark on Friday, October 31st.
The winning name will be announced Saturday, November 1st.
All donations will go to the Butler Public Library to help support our mission.
Intro to Tarot
Part 1: Thursday, October 23rd
5:00-6:30 pm
Part 2: Thursday, October 30th
5:00-6:30 pm
Learn the basics of reading Tarot cards from Molly Snyder, who has studied the cards for 20 years, in this two-part class. Bring your own deck (the Rider deck is recommended). Instructional materials will be provided. Walk away with information and insight into the magickal, mysterious and meaningful world of Tarot. Register at the front desk or by calling us at 262-783-2535. Space is limited so reserve your spot today!
Rubber Duck Costume Event
Get in the Halloween spirit by dressing up a rubber duck! Sign up at the front desk to receive a rubber duck*. Decorate it however you wish, and return your costumed duckie by end of day Saturday, October 18th.
Supplies are limited!
You can take home your costumed ducks starting November 1st.
*A $2 fee will be charged for all unreturned ducks.
Ducks After Dark
Halloween Party!
Friday, October 31st
4:30-7:00 pm
Enjoy our duck-tacular display on Halloween Night! Don your Halloween costume, view the gallery of decorated ducks, and enjoy a little trick-or-treating fun. We’ll have festive snacks, duck-themed activities, and plenty of fun.
Sure to be a quacking good time!

Homeschool Book Club

This month's Homeschool Book Club is sure to be a fantastical time. We're reading original fairy tales and modern twists on classic lore. Pick a book that fits the theme and join us for a magical discussion. Physical copies of the book list and discussion questions can be found at the library or viewed on our website.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
 
It's never too early to foster a love of reading. Get your little one excited to read by signing up for our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
They'll get a special prize for every 100 books read.

It's Butler Library Tech Time
Introducing an engaging way to learn about technology! Our Tech Time series will include presentations and hands-on workshops to help you learn about and engage with technology such as smartphones, apps, and the Internet. We'll also have a monthly Bring Your Own Device day where you can learn to use, ask questions, and get help on specific issues on your own devices such as tables, laptops, and smartphones.

Our Catalog has a New Look!
We've upgraded our library catalog! The new version has improved features to enhance your search experience, allowing you to seamlessly explore our entire collection throughout the
Bridges Library System.
Key features:
- Simplified design for easier navigation
- Combined formats and editions for a more efficient search
- Enhanced discovery to easily find related titles and authors
- Mobile-friendly accessibility to explore on any device, anywhere

Hoopla Services End October 10th
Butler Public Library is committed to fiscal responsibility and ensuring sustainable services for all patrons. In response to the growing demand for digital materials both at our library and throughout the library system, we have conducted a comprehensive review of digital borrowing trends and performed a budget analysis.
We are focusing our funding on the continued development of our robust digital collections within the Libby app, which includes access to digital books, audiobooks, and magazines. We will be discontinuing the hoopla service on October 10, 2025.
