The Book of Love
Kelly Link

Late one night, Laura, Daniel, and Mo find themselves confused and disembodied, blinking under the fluorescent lights of their high school music room. They are greeted by the man they know as their music teacher, who restores the ghostly teens to their corporeal forms with a flick of his fingers and explains that nearly a year ago they went missing from their hometown, the small seaside community of Lovesend, Massachusetts, and have long been presumed dead. Which they are. Desperate to reclaim their lives, the teenagers agree to the terms of a deal that their teacher proposes. Laura, Daniel, and Mo, and a mysterious fourth soul who crossed back over with them, will compete to remain in the mortal realm. They will be given a series of magical tasks. In the meantime, they may return to their families and friends, but they can tell no one where they have been. In the end, there will be winners and losers. Two will remain. Two will return. But their resurrection has attracted the notice of several supernatural figures, all with their own agendas. As Laura, Daniel, and Mo grapple with love, loss, and heartbreak in the lives they left behind, these mysterious others begin to arrive, engulfing Lovesend in danger and chaos, and it becomes imperative that the teens solve the mystery of their deaths to avert the looming disaster.

No One Can Know
Kate Alice Marshall

Then they lose their apartment, her husband gets laid off, and Emma discovers she's pregnant. right as the bank account slips into the red. That's when Emma confesses that she has one more asset -- her parents' house, which she owns jointly with her estranged sisters. They can't sell it, but they can live in it. The Bright Spot
Jill Shalvis

Luna Wright is a lot of things, but sweet and trusting aren't on the list. However, she's a sucker for the underdog and a hard-luck story. Adopted at birth, with scant knowledge of her biological family, she's created her own inner circle, a motley crew that includes her bestie Willow, to help her run the struggling but charming Apple Ridge Farm. With a farm-to-table cafe as well as a menagerie of rescued animals (complete with a baby goat who keeps escaping to the pantry to eat the secret stash of decidedly not organic potato chips), it's the best home she's ever known. But when Silas, the owner who they secretly call ‘the Grinch’, passes away, Luna discovers the farm is now under the control of both his investment manager, the enigmatic Jameson Hayes, and her. And that Silas had many, many secrets. Now Luna's carefully controlled corner of the world is threatened and she, along with some of her friends, has to dig deep to find true strength and the real meaning of love and family.

Death of a Spy

M.C. Beaton

Sergeant Hamish Macbeth has some major problems to deal with -- crimes and criminals, even law enforcement agents, that he doesn't want anywhere near his beloved Highland village in Lochdubh. Hamish is worried about how the locals, as well as those in the wider area of his territory in Sutherland, will react to his new assistant officer. The officer is none other than the enigmatic American James Bland who is on an exchange scheme from his home city of Chicago in the United States, supposedly to study policing methods in Scotland. Hamish knows that this is far from the truth. Having recently become involved in identifying a Russian spy ring to solve a murder, he is aware that Bland's mission is to track down the members of the spy network still at large. Bland trusts Hamish to help him find all of those who may have been, or may still be, in league with the Russians. In the meantime, he and Bland have to contend with the everyday chores of rural policing. The tourist season brings with it the usual crop of traffic incidents, lost wallets, lost dogs, and people who are simply lost, but a spate of burglaries and robberies committed by a man described as having a gold tooth and a spider's web tattoo on his neck give Hamish cause for serious concern. The robberies become increasingly violent and the man is dubbed ‘Spiderman’ by the local press. Hamish has to use all of his contacts and every ounce of his Highland guile to find the robber.

The Bad Weather Friend

Dean Koontz

Benny Catspaw's perpetually sunny disposition is tested when he loses his job, his reputation, his fiancée, and his favorite chair. He's not paranoid. Someone is out to get him. He just doesn't know who or why. Then Benny receives an inheritance from an uncle he's never heard of: a giant crate and a video message. All will be well in time. How strange -- though it's a blessing, his uncle promises. Stranger yet is what's inside the crate. He's a seven-foot-tall self-described ‘bad weather friend’ named Spike whose mission is to help people who are just too good for this world. Spike will take care of it. He'll find Benny's enemies. He'll deal with them. This might be satisfying if Spike wasn't such a menacing presence with terrifying techniques of intimidation. In the company of Spike and a fascinated young waitress-cum-PI-in-training named Harper, Benny plunges into a perilous high-speed adventure, the likes of which never would have crossed the mind of a decent guy like him.

The Book of Invasive Species

Kit Carlson

Invasive flora and fauna adversely affect our ecosystems. Some species are introduced purposefully, but even with the best intentions it is almost impossible to predict how a foreign organism will react to a new environment. The Carlsons introduce readers to invasive animals, plants, and microorganisms found across North America -- their identifying characteristics, habitats, threats they pose to their ecosystems, and how they can be managed.”--provided by the publisher.
