Peoria Garden Club Celebrates 100 Years! |
A special exhibit honoring 100 years of the Peoria Garden Club will be on display at Peoria Public Main Library’s Gallery from Feb. 1 – 25.
“Celebrating 100 Years … And Still Growing” will celebrate the past, present and future of one of the oldest garden clubs in the country.
The Peoria Garden Club was founded in January 1924 by Vonna Vada Ritchie Brown, who brought widespread attention to Peoria during her two-decade leadership. For instance, in 1927, the Peoria Garden Club hosted the National Peony Show at the Armory, with exhibits from 10 states and nearly 12,000 paid attendees.
“Peoria’s Garden Club has a rich and proud history, and we’re excited to celebrate our 100th birthday,” said Barb Kane, current co-president of the club. “In addition to this exhibit and others we’ve done, we’re also celebrating with several community service projects, including a new special project at Luthy Botanical Garden coming in April for Arbor Day.”
The public is invited to visit the Peoria Garden Club’s exhibit at Peoria Public Main Library, beginning Feb. 1. The gallery is located on lower level 2 of Main Library, 107 NE Monroe. Open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
