Celebrate Summer Reading!

School is out. Time to start Summer Reading!

We're sooo ready to help you have a great summer!

We have 120+ programs scheduled -- just in June -- plus great prizes lined up for our Summer Readers.

Our theme this year is Level Up so we have lots of game-themed programs for you!

We've even decorated each location with a different game/book theme! You'll have to come visit to see!

We've also made it easy with the shorter summer break and family vacations factored in. Your entire family should still have time to do Summer Reading BINGO! Because, remember, Summer Reading is for all ages!

Did you know that all K-12 students who complete Summer Reading at Lincoln Branch are eligible to be in our new bike random drawing? (only at Lincoln Branch).

Did you know that we're having TWO celebrations at the end of Summer Reading? And one of them is an exclusive, after-hours event at the Peoria Riverfront Museum with the World's Largest Dinosaurs exhibit!

Did you know that you do not have to be a Peoria Public Library patron to participate in our Summer Reading?

Read your way to parties and prizes by playing BINGO! For all ages!

Make memories at the library this summer -- and stop the Summer Slide before it starts.Stop in any of our 5 locations to sign up or learn more here

One of the country's leading African American contemporary authors, Ms. Murray has written more than 30 books, including co-authoring the instant New York Times bestsellers, The Personal Librarian and The First Ladies. Several of her books were also made into Lifetime TV movies, based on her Seven Deadly Sins series of books. Her latest book, Harlem Rhapsody is based on the woman who kicked off the Harlem renaissance and is winning praise from critics and readers alike.

Join us as we welcome her on Thursday, June 5 at Lincoln Branch. The event will run from 6-8 PM. Free and open to all.

Welcome, Erastus!

Erastus is in the house! OK, outside the house, but he is a bison, after all!

Peoria Public Library is taking part in Peoria County's "bison"centennial, celebrating the county's 200th birthday.

Since we are 145 years old, we thought it fitting to cover our bison in photographs from the library's past, dating back to the very beginning. Come see!

Many thanks to our hard-working crew at Peoria Public Library who made this happen, including Amber Lowery of our Local History and Genealogy Department, who had the wonderful idea to make him fully ours by covering him in our history.

You’ll find him living outside Main Library on the Main Street side. And we named him Erastus after the father of public libraries.

The real Erastus S. Willcox was Peoria's second librarian, but he had a first-rate idea to make libraries free and open to the public, an idea that became legislation adopted by most of the U.S. Some photos of the real Erastus are even on his namesake. See if you can find them!

Thanks to funding from the American Library Association (ALA) and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, PPL is one of 300 public libraries across the nation taking part in the Thinking Money for Kids program.

Playaway Launchpads are kid-friendly tablets that can be checked out and used at home or the library. Find them in our catalog or ask any library staff member to help you place a hold. They are available at the McClure Branch at any time.

The Launchpads don’t require a home internet connection, and games are pre-loaded, including Pet Cents, Making Mooo-lah, Currency Conga and Penny Pinchers’ Party.  These games are mainly geared to ages 3 to 12.

Keep an eye out also for linked Thinking Money for Kids programming, starting in July.
