| Bringing the World (And World Languages) to You |
Peoria Public Library is working to expand our physical collection of world languages, including new children’s books in Tamil, one of the oldest languages in the world, at North Branch.
Tamil was declared a classical language of India in 2004, but it is also spoken in Sir Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji and South Africa. |
McClure Branch is also expanding its physical collection of Spanish books. We are also exploring which other languages we should be expanding upon. Meanwhile, you can search our online catalog for books in other languages besides English. Libby, for instance, currently has nearly 200 ebooks in German as well as French and nearly 150 in Spanish.
Looking to learn a language? Adults can access Mango languages for free to learn 70+ languages, and children will love LOTE4kids, which has bilingual audio-picture books in 95+ world languages. Both Mango and LOTE4kids offer free, downloadable apps so you can take this resource with you anywhere. All you need is your library card to start an account.
