Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors |
Wednesday, September 27 | 6:30-7:00 PM |
Join Tory Stephens of Grist Magazine, an independent non-profit media organization focused on the climate crisis, and learn how he created Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors. Imagine is a storytelling initiative that calls for fiction writers to envision the next 180 years of equitable climate progress, imagining intersectional worlds of abundance, adaptation, reform, and hope. The initiative also seeks narratives that center solutions from the communities most impacted by the climate crisis, and stories that are rooted in cultural authenticity (a deep sense of place, customs, cuisine, and more). Over the course of three years the project has encouraged 3,000 plus writers from 91 countries to submit stories, and of which 700,000 people have read. Writers and readers alike will enjoy this climate justice romp.
This program is brought to you by Blue Marble Librarians, Eastham Public Library, and Brewster Ladies' Library. It is part of the Lynnfield Library's September is Sustainability Month programming.
Registration is required in order to receive the Zoom link for this event.

Virtual - Banned in the USA: A History of Censorship, Book Bans, and First Amendment Freedoms |
Wednesday, October 4 | 7:00 - 8:00 PM |
Censorship is on the rise within the United States and right here in Massachusetts – through individual challenges to titles held by school and public libraries, and a proliferation of legislative action across the country to shape and limit the content of school libraries and course curriculum. Join Jocelyn Kennedy, a lawyer and librarian, to explore the history of government censorship within the United States, discuss the legal limits of censorship, and develop an understanding of the role the first amendment plays in protecting the freedom to read.
Jocelyn Kennedy is the Executive Director of the Farmington Libraries in Farmington, Connecticut, where she provides strategic leadership and oversees the day to day operations of the library. Jocelyn has served as Executive Director of the Harvard Law School Library, Director of Library Services at the UConn Law Library, and as a research librarian at the University of Michigan Law Library.
A lawyer and a librarian, she is a former clerk for the New Hampshire Trial Court, and worked for a US Congressman prior to attending law school. Jocelyn holds a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire, a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire-Franklin Pierce Law Center, and an M.L.I.S. from the University of Washington.

 | Mass Department of Public Health:
Community Health Equity Survey.
To improve the health of everyone in Massachusetts, we need to center the voices of people and communities who have been long denied an equal chance at health. The Community Health Equity Survey is an opportunity for residents to share their experiences and priorities to help shape the future of our health. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will use survey results to improve our programs, make decisions about funding and resources, and support policies to improve health inequities. We will also share the results of the survey with partners across Massachusetts to support the important work they are doing to improve health in their communities.
The survey will be open from July 31, 2023 through early Fall 2023. Anyone aged 14 and older can take the survey. It takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete and is available in 11 languages: Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese (simplified), Chinese traditional, English, Haitian Creole, Khmer, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. The survey will also be available in ASL later this summer.
Taking the survey is easy! Just click on this link to get started: www.mass.gov/healthsurvey
For more information about the Community Health Equity Initiative and the survey, please visit our website: www.mass.gov/CHEI |
