|  | Lynnfield receives provisional MBLC grant
for new Lynnfield Public Library |
The Lynnfield Public Library is pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) voted on July 13, 2023 to award Lynnfield a provisional grant for construction of a brand new library. This provisional grant offers Lynnfield the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art library for our current needs, and to plan an innovative, adaptable space for future generations.

Join Ms. Alex and Ms. Joan on Wednesdays, starting September 6th, to sing songs and listen to stories! This story time will be held outside on the Lynnfield Town Common if the weather is nice. You are welcome to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. If it is too cold or rainy, story time will be held inside the library.
Recommended for children ages 5 and under.

Hands on Nature | Thursday, September 21 |
3:30 - 4:15 PM | Let’s discover the differences between butterflies and moths, and the characteristics which make each one unique. We will learn about their life cycles and habitats, and about the incredible migration of the Monarchs to Mexico each year.
We will also learn about the importance of these special insects to our eco-system, and will have a butterfly activity/craft. We will have some live butterflies that the children can see up close and even hold in our 'butterfly tent'. Registration required.

Back by popular demand, it’s Curious About Cuisine at the Lynnfield Library! Everyone loves food - even if they don't like cooking or baking it themselves. You don't have to be an avid home chef to attend Curious About Cuisine, all are welcome to learn a bit more about different cuisines and of course get a chance to taste them, too!
Join us for our grand come back on September 27th with Lynnfield native and restaurateur Steve DiFillippo of Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse. All are welcome. Registration is requested for headcount, but not required.

Read to a Dog | Wednesday, September 27 |

Mitzi, a trained therapy dog, will be visiting the Lynnfield Library hoping to hear some great stories! Children may sign up for a 10-minute session and choose a book or selection from a book to read to her. Mitzi is a patient listener, so reading to her is good practice for readers who are still struggling a bit as well as pros.
Program geared towards children in grades K-4. Space is limited to 6 children. When registering, please select an available time. Time to read to Mitzi is limited, so please arrive early if you need time to pick out a book. We may not be able to accept children who are late to their appointment time. If registration is full, please email lfdyouth@noblenet.org to join the waitlist.

Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors |

Join Tory Stephens of Grist Magazine, an independent non-profit media organization focused on the climate crisis, and learn how he created Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors. Imagine is a storytelling initiative that calls for fiction writers to envision the next 180 years of equitable climate progress, imagining intersectional worlds of abundance, adaptation, reform, and hope. The initiative also seeks narratives that center solutions from the communities most impacted by the climate crisis, and stories that are rooted in cultural authenticity (a deep sense of place, customs, cuisine, and more). Over the course of three years the project has encouraged 3,000 plus writers from 91 countries to submit stories, and of which 700,000 people have read. Writers and readers alike will enjoy this climate justice romp.
This program is brought to you by Blue Marble Librarians, Eastham Public Library, and Brewster Ladies' Library. It is part of the Lynnfield Library's September is Sustainability Month programming.

Mass Department of Public Health: Community Health Equity Survey.
To improve the health of everyone in Massachusetts, we need to center the voices of people and communities who have been long denied an equal chance at health. The Community Health Equity Survey is an opportunity for residents to share their experiences and priorities to help shape the future of our health. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will use survey results to improve our programs, make decisions about funding and resources, and support policies to improve health inequities. We will also share the results of the survey with partners across Massachusetts to support the important work they are doing to improve health in their communities.
The survey will be open from July 31, 2023 through early Fall 2023. Anyone aged 14 and older can take the survey. It takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete and is available in 11 languages: Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese (simplified), Chinese traditional, English, Haitian Creole, Khmer, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. The survey will also be available in ASL later this summer.
