A Year in Review: 2025

Thank you to all in the community for another amazing year!

A Year in Review: 2025
While at the desk, the library gave out 910 museum passes, 1,421 laptop checkouts, 5,965 interlibrary loans, answered 2,875 reference questions, had Narcan and Deterra available, over 500 cans of water this summer, and 2,000 AARP tax forms.
In 2025, 85,847 items were checked out. By using the library, patrons saved $2.1 million. 1,320 new library cards were issued.
Top titles of 2025: Adults - #1: The Women by Kristin Hannah, #2: James by Percival Everett, #3: The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny. Teens - #1: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, #2: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, #3: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Children: #1: Dog Man: The Scarlet Shredder by Dav Pilkey, #2: Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls by Dav Pilkey, #3: Noodle and the No Bones Day by Jonathan Graziano.
Total Adult Programs: 798; Total Attendees: 7,028. Most Attended - The Colgate Thirteen: 125, Night at the Library: 110, Hope's Retirement Party: 100, New England Irish Harp Orchestra: 75.
New Events: The library added many new events to its schedule in 2025, including the Authors' Fair and Community Resource Fair. Also, Family Game Day, a Nonfiction Book Group, two weekly Teen events, three language tables, and four Childrens' events.
Adult Summer Reading: 1,488 participants and 37 programs over 6 weeks, including: movie showings, weekly trivia, sticker mosaic, reading challenge, and more!
Teen Stats Recap: 76 Summer Reading participants, 555 items checked out for Summer Reading, 331 total Teen programs, and 989 total Teen attendance.
Children's Room Recap: 1,352 books read during Summer Reading, 900+ Summer Reading Participants, and 500 Children's programs in 2025.
Craft Fairs: The library was able to support about 90 local artists at 3 Craft Fairs in 2025 and raise money for the Friends of EPL! Attendees - Spring: 200 people, Fall: 150 people, Winter: 200 people.

The library accepts donations for St. Vincent de Paul of Exeter and Lions Club International

Consider donating non-perishable food items to support St. Vincent de Paul of Exeter or usable eyeglasses to help Lions Club International.

Exeter Rotary Club is also accepting donations for old hearing aids. Donations will be used to help others at the Rotary Hearing Clinic in the Dominican Republic.

Donate your soda tabs to help the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth.

Items can be placed in the boxes on the table next to the Adult Information Desk.

Town wide mandatory level 4 Water Restriction- These Activities are Restricted: No watering of residential landscape areas (lawns or landscapes) No washing of vehicles No washing down paved surfaces No filling of swimming pools (> 100 gallons)

AARP Tax-Aide

AARP Tax-Aide will be hosted at Exeter Public Library starting on Friday, February 6. Appointments are required. For appointments or questions, please call 2-1-1.

Exploring Poetry on Tuesday, January 20 and Tuesday, January 27 at 10:30 AM.

Curious about poetry? Unsure where to start? Come to this two-session series where participants will read and discuss poetry, discover hidden meanings, and find inspiration for their own works.

Led by Becky Moore, a retired English teacher. Poets to be discussed include Natasha Trethewey, Tracy K. Smith, Robert Frost, and other poet laureates.

Join longtime former public radio host Laura Knoy as she discusses her new historical novel, The Shopkeeper of Alsace. Heavily based on a true story, the book spans both World Wars, introducing readers to unknown places, forgotten history, and a real-life heroine they'll cheer for.

Reading Classics of 20th Century Literature Book Group: Monday, January 26th - Discussing 2nd half of Albert Camus's novel The Stranger; Monday, February 2 - 1st half of Albert Camus's novel The Fall; Monday, Feb. 9 - 2nd half of Albert Camus's The Fall; Monday, February 23 - Franz Kafka's short story "The Metamorphosis"; Monday, March 2: Franz Kafka's short story "The Country Doctor."

The Existential Shelf will now be known as Reading Classics of 20th Century Literature!

Peter Vorkink, Chair of the Religion Department, Emeritus, at Phillips Exeter Academy, will lead a discussion on the second half of The Stranger by Albert Camus on Monday, January 26th at 10 AM.

NH Philharmonic has changed its programming for February! Celebrate Valentine's Weekend with The Many Shades of Love on Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22 at 2 PM. An afternoon of arias will conclude with Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. The orchestra also welcomes soloist Mark-Andrew Cleveland.

Kick off America’s 250th celebrations with Exeter Parks & Recreation at the educational presentation, The Evolution of a Holiday! Discover the past and present of the American Holiday, President’s Day, with Robin Shelgren from Learning through the Ages.

Participants will learn about our country’s presidents and the significance of George Washington and the Purple Heart while exploring fun facts and trivia about the U.S. Presidents.
