From the Director...

I’d like to use this space to say a great big THANK YOU to our director, Tom Shilts. We are thankful for your strong, steady, kind leadership these past 15 months you’ve been with us. Your trust in us and respect for our individual strengths has been so encouraging. “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” you said about how our team has worked together. You created a work environment that was calm, knowing we could count on your support when we needed it. We are sad to see you go, but wish you all the best in your next position. Thanks for all you’ve done here in Bellaire, it has been a pleasure!

Nikki’s Book Recommendation Corner
The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters

The Berry Pickers was big hit last summer, and I finally read it this one. From what I had heard about this book I was under the impression it was a kind of murder mystery. While there IS an element of mystery, and the suspense of the why what actually happened keeps you reading, this book is about how a beloved girl going missing affects her family forever. The love of her family, specifically her brother, that never stops searching for the little sister is equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming. The whole book makes you think about our natural sense of belonging and familial ties. Those that read this book thinking it was a traditional murder mystery may have been disappointed, but I found that it was so much more. It was a pleasant surprise. It is available in our stacks as well as an ebook/audiobook on Libby.
                                                    NEW BOOKS
Culpability
by Bruce W. Holsinger

"When the Cassidy-Shaws' autonomous minivan collides with an oncoming car, seventeen-year-old Charlie is in the driver's seat, with his father, Noah, riding shotgun. In the back seat, tweens Alice and Izzy are on their phones, while their mother, Lorelei, a world leader in the field of artificial intelligence, is absorbed in her work. Yet each family member harbors a secret, implicating them all in the tragic accident. During a weeklong recuperation on the Chesapeake Bay, the family confronts the excruciating moral dilemmas triggered by the crash. Noah tries to hold the family together as a seemingly routine police investigation jeopardizes Charlie's future. Alice and Izzy turn strangely furtive. And Lorelei's odd behavior tugs at Noah's suspicions that there is a darker truth behind the incident"

Edge of honor : a thriller
by Brad Thor

After six months abroad, elite spy Scot Harvath returns to a shifting political landscape in America, where a powerful secret cabal threatens to destabilize the nation, in the latest addition to the long-time series following Shadow of Doubt.
The life of Chuck
by Stephen King

"In a crumbling world plagued by natural disasters, collapsing infrastructure, and mass panic, bizarre billboards and advertisements appear throughout town: "Charles Krantz. Thirty-nine great years. Thanks, Chuck!" Marty Anderson, a school teacher, becomes obsessed with these messages as the world, inexplicably linked to Chuck's life, seems to be approaching its end. Told in three acts, presented in reverse order, The Life of Chuck explores one man's past. We see him in middle age on a business trip in Boston as he is seduced by a busker into spinning a gorgeous sidewalk dance. And we see him as a child, in a house haunted by a terrible secret, learning to dance with his grandmother. In these pages King reminds us that life's quotidian pleasures are evenmore glorious because they are fleeting: the outrageous good fortune of a beautiful blue day after a string of gray ones; the delight of dancing when every move feels perfect; a serendipitous meeting. King's ability to describe pure joy rivals his ability to terrify us"
