This group is open to all skill levels, from smartphone snappers to professionals. Meetings will be held on the third Thursday of every month in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room on the upper level. Guest speakers and field trips will be scheduled throughout the year.
For our March meeting we will discuss creating deceptive photos using forced perspective. Here is a great article that explains the technique and gives some simple examples to try Forced Perspective Photography: Complete Guide 2026. Our March Photo Challenge is Photo Fakery. Bring in photos you have taken for the challenge on a flash drive or email photos to rita@bristol-library.org before March 18. We will share and discuss the photos during the meeting.

Using the Google Gemini App

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll practice chatting with Google Gemini using the mobile app. We’ll go over tips for writing effective questions, or prompts, as well as different use cases, from drafting emails to travel planning. We’ll also practice using the app’s voice features, including Gemini Live. Finally, we’ll explore the privacy settings and discuss best practices to ensure you can use the app safely and confidently. |

The ability to spot a scam is an essential digital skill. In this lecture, we’ll review some of the most common scams, offer tips for avoiding them, and go over what to do if you do get scammed. We’ll look at sample emails, texts, and deepfakes to see how AI contributes to the increased spread and complexity of scams. We’ll also provide helpful resources for staying informed about the latest scams.

Smartphone Photography Class

This 5-week course explores the basics of using your smartphone’s digital camera. You’ll learn how to take pictures, where they’re stored on your device, and how to delete them. You’ll also go over tips for taking selfies, recording videos, and sharing your photos! This course also introduces some fundamental photography principles about composition and lighting. Please note: this course will focus only on the smartphone’s camera and will not cover other uses for your smartphone.
Prerequisites: You will need to bring your own smartphone for this course, so you should be somewhat comfortable using it. You must bring an iPhone running iOS 9 or later or an Android running OS 9 or later to participate.

Teen Creative Writing Workshop

Helping you grow your writing and workout your imagination is the goal of this 6-session course. BPL Teen Space Writer-in-Residence Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig will lead participants through writing exercises and feedback sessions designed to provide an encouraging space for creative risk taking. No experience necessary. All writing genres welcome. Come work on poetry, prose, scripts, D&D scenarios, or any other writing that benefits from feedback.
