National Poetry Month Event: Song of the Saco
This presentation celebrates the Saco and all rivers that are the life blood of this land. A land under enormous stress due to development, pollution, and a warming climate tipping too close to the edge.
Join us on Tuesday, April 29th at 6:30PM at the Saco Museum as author, poet, songwriter and balladeer, former Portsmouth Poet Laureate John Perrault reads, recites and sings poems and songs—from Wordsworth to Whitman, Dickinson to Dylan, and beyond—plus originals (e.g. “Saco River Song,” “Carbon the Garden,” “Walk by the River”) dedicated to the precious rivers and landscapes—material and spiritual—that water our lives.

There's still time to catch our current exhibition “Tending to Our Knitting: Traditions and Trends”, running through April 19th! Based on the collection of Jacqueline Fee, author of The Sweater Workshop, the exhibition will feature an array of historical knitted home goods and garments. From 19th century baby bonnets to 20th century fashionable sweaters, from knitting sheaths to red, white, and blue patriotic World War I knitting needles, we explore the role knitters played in producing domestic items for the home as well as the important public roles they played in providing soldier’s necessities during wartime.
Museum Director Tara Raiselis will host a Gallery Talk in conjunction with our new exhibit, providing more context and information about many of the items on display. This Gallery Talk will take place on Thursday, April 10th at 6:00 PM. |
