Special Author Event
We're thrilled to welcome local author and CK Burns teacher Nick Fuller Googins for a special Author Event at Dyer Library on Tuesday, July 15th at 6:00PM. His novel "The Great Transition" is a Read ME Summer Reading Experience selection for 2025, and his forthcoming novel "TheFrequency of Living Things" will be released later this summer.
Current Museum Exhibit
"Behind Closed Doors: The Secrets of Museum Work" takes a fascinating look at some behind-the-scenes museum work and addresses questions like... where do museums obtain objects for their collections - and how do they decide what is appropriate to collect? How do staff take care of those objects so that future generations can enjoy them? How do they go about researching the items in the collections? And how does the staff use that information when putting together exhibitions and programs?
Featuring some of the museum’s oldest collections, dating from the late 19th century, as well as recent acquisitions, the exhibit will also include museum staff working on cataloguing and other projects in our large gallery during weekday hours. Visitors can ask questions and observe museum work in action!
Gallery Talks
In conjunction with our current exhibit, our museum staff will be hosting a series of Gallery Talks throughout the summer. These talks will provide more context and background to the items on display, or go in depth on a particular topic of interest.
We are offering three Gallery Talks in the Month of July, all at noon in the Main Gallery:
"Caring for Your Collections" -
July 9th
"Collecting at the Early York Institute: Victorian Mariners, Missionaries, and Adventurers" - July 15th
"Behind the Scenes: The Real Story" - July 31st
