March 2025 |
 |
In Maine we know that March can be long and the weather unpredictable (hello, False Spring), so it's smart to stock up on books that'll help you spring ahead! We've also got programs that deliver great information on a wide range of topics, from conservation to retirement to the world of birds. And we're celebrating our wonderful new museum exhibit "Tending to Our Knitting: Traditions and Trends" with a public reception and two opportunities to hear Gallery Talks given by Saco Museum Director Tara Raiselis! |

Are you a knitter? Even if you’re not, you will enjoy our new exhibition “Tending to Our Knitting: Traditions and Trends”. Based on the collection of Jacqueline Fee, author of The Sweater Workshop, the exhibition will feature an array of historical knitted home goods and garments. From 19th century baby bonnets to 20th century fashionable sweaters, from knitting sheaths to red, white, and blue patriotic World War I knitting needles, we will explore the role knitters played in producing domestic items for the home as well as the important public roles they played in providing soldier’s necessities during wartime.
We will be hosting an opening reception for this new exhibit on March 15th from 1:00-3:00PM. This reception is free and open to the public and will feature light refreshments.
Additionally, Museum Director Tara Raiselis will host two Gallery Talks in conjunction with our new exhibit, providing more context and information about many of the items on display. These Gallery Talks will take place on Wednesday, March 26th at 2:00PM and Thursday, April 10th at 6:00 PM
"Tending to Our Knitting" will run through April 19th. |
