There are so many exciting things coming this new year! We're kicking off with a contest to design new library cards and we hope you'll participate. It's open to all ages, so grown-ups, that means you too! We also have some fun programs for adults and children to beat the winter blahs. Stop in today to find out more!

Design Our New Library Card!

From January 1st through January 31st, we are accepting designs to be made into limited-edition library cards! Designs must be original art work and family- friendly. Beyond that, the creativity is up to you--use a special photo, painting, graphic design, or any other artistic medium that inspires you! The last day to turn in designs will be January 31st.

The staff at DLSM will look through the submissions and pick a few designs to be voted on by the public between February 10th - 22nd. Voting will take place on social media, and physically at the Library and Museum. The winning design for each age group (Child, Teen, & Adult) will be made into limited edition library cards, which will be available this spring while they last.

Cribbage & Cookies

Monday, January 27th, 1:00-3:00PM

Deering Room

Have you been looking to brush up your cribbage skills or for some new partners to challenge? Drop in to enjoy cookies and a few rounds of cribbage! We have a few cribbage boards for common use but also feel free to bring your own.

Love cribbage, but afternoons don't work for you? Please let us know! We are looking to make this a monthly event, but we'd also like to vary the timing so that everyone can play! If there's enough interest, we'd love to plan a tournament later this winter!

More Downloadable Books Available

We know many of our patrons love the downloadable eBooks and audiobooks available to them through CloudLibrary! We've been working to add additional copies, so if you are interested in an eBook or Audiobook that is currently checked out, please add your name to the hold list. That helps us determine how many extra licenses to purchase so that you can access that digital media faster! Plus, if we buy a copy all of our Saco residents get first dibs before sharing with the state-wide consortium.

Telescope Available to Lend

With abundant darkness, winter is a wonderful time to stargaze! We have a telescope available for our patrons to borrow and take home with them for their own personal use. The telescope can be borrowed for a week at a time. If you are interested, please inquire at the circulation desk.

Call for Volunteers!

Calling all Dunder Mifflin buffs! We are planning an Office Trivia Night to celebrate the iconic show's 20th anniversary, and we are looking for a few volunteers to help us out. If you are interested, please contact circ@dyersaco.org.

New Year, New Books

The Crash

Frieda McFadden

The nightmare she's running from is nothing compared to where she's headed. A gut-wrenching story of motherhood, survival, and twisted expectations, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden delivers a snowbound thriller that will chill you to the bone!

Releasing on January 28.

The Note

Alafair Burke

It was meant to be a harmless prank. What had they gone and done? A vacation in the Hamptons goes terribly wrong for three friends with a complicated history.

Releasing on January 7.

Books that Made a Difference

Every once in a while, a book changes our entire outlook.

"This book was purchased in October 2024 at the Anne Frank Museum gift shop in Amsterdam, as denoted by the sticker placed at the front of the book by museum staff.  I highly recommend a visit to the museum, where you can actually enter the quarters where the family and others were in hiding from the Nazis.  It is a very powerful experience."
-  Sharon McKenna Molleur, Saco, who kindly donated this special copy to Dyer Library.

Is there a book that's made a difference in how you see the world? Let us know!

Coming Next Month: Craft Swap

The new year finds a lot of folks organizing and purging - are you cleaning out your craft room? Want to make room for new supplies? Well, hold onto them because we're hosting a craft swap in February! Once we are ready for donations, bring in your unwanted craft supplies - yarn, fabric, paints, crayons, paper, you name it - and swap them for something new. You might find the makings of your next winter project!
