Mid-June 2025 |
We're popping in with a mid-June newsletter as there is just so much going on at Dyer Library/Saco Museum and we don't want you to miss any of it! We are so excited to share that we are scheduled to transition to MINERVA at the end of July. Minerva is a shared library system that brings together over 60 libraries across the state. This means that you can easily borrow books from other libraries and even visit them in person. Part of this transition will be issuing new library cards to all patrons - read on for details! |

New Library Cards |
Our new library cards are here! We’re joining MINERVA, a statewide system, and with that comes with new, longer barcodes. It’s easy to switch over, and you get to choose from a limited edition library card design featuring the winning entries in our design contest. The new cards also include a handy keychain version for your convenience. Please stop by the Circulation Desk or Youth Services Desk to pick out your new card and stay up-to-date!
All patrons that register for a new or updated card by the end of June will be entered into a raffle for a $50 gift certificate to a local business! |

We've pressed start on Summer Reading 2025: Level Up At Your Library! Programming begins this week with our weekly Crafter's Table Crafternoon on Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 PM. We'll have a different fun craft to work on each week!
Stop by the Youth Services Room to sign up for Summer Reading and pick up a welcome kit which includes a log for tracking the number of minutes read and game boards sheets with fun reading activities to complete.
For the Level Up reading challenge you will track every 25 minutes of reading. For every 500 minutes of reading, you can come in and pick a prize for two total levels. By completing the challenge, participants 5 and older can enter a raffle for a chance to win a bike provided by the Saco Lodge #9 Masons. Participants aged 4 and under will be able to pick out a book to keep! Please return the trackers to enter in the bike raffle by Friday August 8th. There will be a celebration and raffle drawing party on the evening of Thursday August 21st! |

"Behind Closed Doors: The Secrets of Museum Work" takes a fascinating look at some behind-the-scenes museum work and addresses questions like... where do museums obtain objects for their collections - and how do they decide what is appropriate to collect? How do staff take care of those objects so that future generations can enjoy them? How do they go about researching the items in the collections? And how does the staff use that information when putting together exhibitions and programs?
Featuring some of the museum’s oldest collections, dating from the late 19th century, as well as recent acquisitions, the exhibit will also include museum staff working on cataloguing and other projects in our large gallery during weekday hours. Visitors can ask questions and observe museum work in action!

In conjunction with our current exhibit, our museum staff will be offering a series of Gallery Talks throughout the summer. These talks will provide more context and background to the items on display, or go in depth on a particular topic of interest.
The first Gallery Talk will take place on Tuesday, June 17 at noon in the main gallery of the Saco Museum. Please join Anatole Brown for “My Noble Josephine, For Your Honor” – The Hotel Heiress and Her Calamitous Captain.

| Annual Book Sale Planning |
We're getting excited for the big Annual Used Book Sale in August! In preparation, we've started accepting a wider range and larger volume of donations than we usually request. Just a reminder, the bins behind the library are for donations to another organization, not DLSM. We want your best books for our summer book sale, so we'd appreciate it if you would save the cream of the crop for us! 😊
This year's Annual Book Sale will be held from August 16th - 30th. Our popular Preview Night event will also be returning on the evening of August 15th! Look for tickets to go on sale in July.
We rely on a number of wonderful volunteers to make the Annual Book Sale happen. If you are interested in helping to sort and organize donations in the two weeks before the sale, or volunteer as a cashier during the sale, please contact Brooke Palmer at bpalmer@dyersaco.org. |
We hope you'll visit our year-round book sale at it's new home in the Saco Museum! There you can browse our wonderful selection of gently used hardcover and trade paperback fiction and non-fiction, children's books, and puzzles. Open during regular museum hours, The year-round book sale does not require a museum admission fee to enter.

The museum will be open extended hours from 9:00am - 4:00pm and will offer free admision to all guests. It's the perfect time to visit our new exhibit Behind Closed Doors, or shop our year-round book sale at it's new location! The library will be open for our regular Saturday hours of 9:30am - 12:30pm - stop by the Youth Services Room to sign up for Summer Reading or to help assemble a tile art painting of Gordon, the Summer Reading Mascot!
