All branches of RDPL are temporarily CLOSED for in-person service until further notice
Greetings library friends!
As you may have heard, the latest update from the Government of Alberta announced this week involves the return to Step 1 of their Path Forward. This means that libraries are required to close their doors to in-person visits once again. But don’t worry! We are still able to offer safe, contactless pickup of library materials and our popular Kits to Go, and we will continue offering a variety of virtual programs and services for all ages. More on that below...
First, we’d like to say “thank you!” to everyone who visited us in person for the brief period that we were open. It was SO WONDERFUL to have you back inside library doors, and we are grateful to each and every one of you for your support and compliance with our safety measures.
We hope to welcome you back inside again very soon, but in the meantime, we want to remind you of the collections, programs, and services that we offer virtually and via curbside pickup.
>> Contactless Holds Pickup - Just because you can’t come in doesn’t mean the books (and movies, and audiobooks, and magazines, and puzzles, and games...) can’t go out! Place your holds online (rdpl.bibliocommons.com) or by phone (403-346-4576), wait for pick up notices via email or phone, and come pick up your items at your chosen location. Easy, breezy.
>> Kits to Go - We have new kits coming out all the time for all different age groups, and they are free to pick up while supplies last. Things to look forward to later this month include Fairy Houses (kids ages 10+), Terrarium Kits (all ages), Jelly Bean Craft Kits (all ages), and more. Find out the details, and when they’ll be available for pickup, on the Kits to Go page.
>> eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines - The great thing about our digital library is that you can access it any time, from anywhere. Download the Libby app to browse available titles for all ages, or place a hold on titles with a waitlist to read later on. You can also check out one of our other eReading resources, like Cantook Station (Read Alberta eBooks), Tumblebooks and TumbleMath (talking picture books for kids), AudioBookCloud, and TeenBookCloud. Pro tip: your PIN is usually set to the last four digits of your phone number! You’ll need this to access most online resources.
>> Even More Digital Resources to Check Out - Find current or historical newspapers, genealogical research tools, classical music, language learning tools, homework help resources, and more, all available 24/7 with your library card.
>> Online Programs - We offer free virtual programs for all ages, including:
>> Get Active this Spring! - Be sure to check out our Biking Spring Challenge, part of the Four Seasons of Wellness, a collaborative program between many Red Deer organizations. Find all of the info at www.rdpl.org/wellness. Biking not your thing? Join our Walk/Run Club on Facebook fortips on great walking locations and ways to enjoy the outdoors, no matter the weather!
>> A Poem A Day Keeps the Doctor Away! - Okay, maybe that's not true, but it's definitely good for the soul! We're celebrating Poetry Month in April with our 'Lit Line.' Call 403-342-9100 to have a different poem read to you every day this month!
>> Check our website for additional programs, services, and more.
